Non-Genuine 20" Supercharged Alloys & Tyres - HELP!

I apologise that this subject has been covered a few times on here recently - but i could really use some final clarification.

I have a 54 plate Disco 3 TDV6 HSE - and i want to replace the standard 19" alloys with 20" Supercharged alloys. Ive found a fantastic looking set of NON-genuine replica 20" Supercharged alloys that are black/silver finish as opposed to the standard silver finish - i think they will look great on my Java Black Disco.

Anyway - the company say they can supply the alloys with Pirelli Scorpions 295/40 or if i prefer 295/45's - but i am obviously concerned with clearance/rubbing issues. (ps; he says the load rating is 110 - which if true, then i believe is fine.)

The offset of the wheels are 53 - which he says is the same as standard - but i keep reading that standard RRS alloys cause problems - so if the offset is the same as standard on these aftermarket wheels then surely im looking at the same issues??

Ive told the company i have my concerns but he says he has sold loads of these to D3, D2 and RR customers and none of them have had clearance issues. He also says that if i do have any problems they will replace them - but i'd rather get it right from the start than take the risk. If the clearance problem was minimal then i would consider spacers.

But can you give me your thoughts on the above before i order them???

Many thanks!!

Steve

You could buy the tyres off camskill.co.uk who do the Genarel Grabber UHP, cheap as chips but a great tyre by all testimonies so far.I have a set of Stormers with GG UHP 275/45's with no probs.Have you done a search on the topic as it has been discussed to death recently?

Yes ive even read most of the threads on this topic - but very few people seem have the Supercharged alloy - most seem to have fitted the Stormer alloy - and also 275 is a lot different to 295 - and thats where my main issue lies. But i appreciate your reply. Steve

Steve, the style of the wheel whether its Supercharged or Stormer is of no real significance.
[not taking into account caliper clearance].
They key point is the wheel width, off set and tyre width/profile.
On the post DW linked you to you will see my comment re my wheels and tyre size.
to reitterate, my 20" wheels are:
9.5" wide
53 offset
295/45 width/profile.
The 45 profile makes your speedo run spot on.
[you will see the pics of my 'upright' clearance in DW's link]

I also run Grabber UHP's - the best available IMO.

Hope this is of use.

no problem with RRS alloys. I run RRS with MTR's and no issues for me.

They are, just wanted to state that there is no problem in 19 inch RRS wheels fitting the D3, as the offset doesn't affect the fitting.

discussions about 20 inches i leave to you big boys Wink

AFAIK the only issue is with some standard FFRR wheels when fitted to the D3 (would probably also have issues if fitted to the RRS), don't recall any RRS to D3 issues assuming the wheels fit over the brakes (ie the 17" will only fit a TDV6, you need 18" for a V8 and 19" minimum for anything fitted with Brembos - S/C and TDV6 HSEs from MY07 etc etc).
 Cheers

Sorry to dig up an old thread, but I have a few questions. Being me, young and impulsive, I bought a set of 20" range stormer alloys, much like the ones Ronp is using. Now I know it fits, I want to see the pictures...Since I have snow here in Canada (50 cm of it + the original 40 cm on the lawn sucks!) I cannot mount them on yet...

And since this is really not contributing tot he thread, heres a calculator to see what tires size would do to your original speedo. http://www.miata.net/garage/tirecalc.html
