Non starter
Where do I start.
A couple of weeks ago I was in Northern France, went to start my Disco 3 one morning and the battery was flat, it was minus 3, so thought it might have been the weather, although I had left it in the Uk during the snow for over 2 weeks, came back to the Uk and it started no problem with over a foot of snow on it.
Since then it has happened a few times, I am working in Nottingham at the moment, went to start it and no go, battery flat.
Called upon the AA, he checked the battery, it was fine, full charging, alternator is fine, no discharge/ draining from the battery.
Put it into the local stealers and they did exactly what the AA had done and charged me £50.00 for the privelige. they did not plug it in to find if it had any faults.
It started fine this morning, checked it again mid afternoon, it started. Went to start it tonight at 6.30pm and the battery was flat.
Thing is it starts first time with a jump, any ideas ? I have not left any lights on, so have not got a clue what is causing it.
I guess I will put it in to my local indy when I get back to Kent. Damned annoying not knowing if it will start.

Is it the original battery? if so definately change it.
I had loads of odd electricla type warnings come up over aperiod of time, took it to the garage they tested the battery and said it was fine. Then a week later the battery was completely dead. Replaced it and no problems since.
You can talk yourself into thinking the battery's okay 'because the garage said so'. But the D3, she has other ideas...

Hi Nick,
Thanks for your comments, Not quite sure what to do. It started fine this morning. I am sure it's not the battery as when it does start there is plenty of life in it. I am hoping that my local indy can plug it in and find the fault. I don't mind buying a new battery if thats what it needs but I am not convinced that is the problem.Thought as much !!

When you say "battery flat" and "wont start", are the dash lights out when you turn the ignition key, or are the lights on as normal but the engine wont crank?
If it helps, my son had this recently with his D3 where there were no lights or anything - just intermittently, it turned out to be the battery connector loose on it's post, the bolt was tight but the connector was too high on the tapered post meaning it was clamped up fully but not secure, (if you see what I mean.)Clive

Hi Guys,
Firstly, and sadly I do not have the second key with me, it did cross my mind that it may be the fob, is it easy to replace the battery in the fob ?
I have checked the terminal connections and they are fine, maybe a trip to boots for a new fob battery !!

The fob battery is rechargable so isn't a normally replaceable coin cell like most. That said, all batteries will have a finite life and will only take a limited amount of charges.

Does that mean I need to go to the stealers to have the fob battery replaced ?
or is it something I can do, not sure if they have to be reset to each vehicle.Thought as much !!
