dunton10, Not sure what your requirements are, kids , dogs, Northumberland is diverse, the coast in the summer is busy, well in our terms nothing like Devon and Cornwall. The best site in Northumberland is Kielder Leaplish CC expensive but stunning and as Ian stated the 4x4 safari is a must and you will meet a few from this site. Powerburn CC is also a good base. The tourists must see have mainly been covered but there is so much more to Northumberland and some fantastic non damaging lanes. If you decide to come PM me and I can give you some detailed info. Powerburn is central just for your information.

Hi guys,

Warkworth castle can be seen from the CL I mentioned, and is itself worth a visit, being only a couple of miles or so away. I wish we were going back! We had a few days in a cottage in Amble at the beginning of the month. So much to see and do up there. Thumbs Up

You NEED to go to Lower Newton, it's lovely, theirs a small micro brewery pub and fantastic beach. You park at the top of the hill and walk down to it. Don't take the caravan mind you, it's just a place to visit.

Plenty to see and do in the Dales, but reckon if you are serious about a stopover there, you raise a separate thread.
But just be aware, to do the Dales proper, you will need to go inland quite a bit. Thumbs Up

Have a look at the following link for campsites.

http://www.ukcampsite.co.uk/sites/results....humberland

As the others have mentioned there are a lot of places to see up here. National Trust & English Heritage sites also worth looking at as they run places like Gibside, Belsay, Wallington & there are always events on from early spring.

There's Newcastle Evolution festival on the last Bank Hol in May.

Cragside well worth a visit - you can book a tour through the tunnels to see the hydro electric system (1st domestic one invented).
Alnwick castle has a range of events throughout the summer & they have the largest tree house restaurant in Europe.
Small VW show held in Druridge Bay over the summer as well.

Just got back from a week spent at a cottage near Rothbury. Went to a classic car event in Wallington, the pub in Lower Newton, also The Joiners Arms (excellent food and dog friendly), and a brisk walk up to Housesteads fort amongst other things.... Already looking forward to my next trip

Nobody's mentioned the Kielder midges Whistle

If you like getting bitten to death by those little blighters, by all means use one of the caravan sites at Kielder in the 'summer' Laughing
Now an ex-D3 owner after 7 happy years. Miss the car but not the big bills Smile

M-I-L and the wife's Aunt leaving today Whistle ...heading to this site in their motorhome http://www.ukcampsite.co.uk/sites/details.asp?revid=4598
They've stayed before and rated it highly (they're very fussy about sites) and it certainly seems to get good reviews.

After taking part in the Kielder 4x4 safari a couple of weeks ago I've just returned to Kielder to camp and ride around the lake area. Lots to see and do in the area.

I stayed at the Kielder campsite which was still a bit boggy from the rain but nice and quiet, no problems from midges yet. Thumbs Up

Good food and drink in The Anglers Arms right next to the campsite.

Very welcoming and friendly locals. Thumbs Up

I'm sure I'll return for more.
