After replacing a super lazy actuator,it only managed a couple of tailgate openings before failing,I connected a fishing trace wire direct to the latch with the other end accessible up by the plastic trim cover. In the case of a cargo barrier being fitted, running a Bowden cable [bike brake] to the rear seats by the back doors would be advisable/essential!
having neither a dog nor a dog cage/guard it occurs even to me that if you do have a dog and a guard and the tailgate fails ... you're basically f d without a means of manually opening the boot. even if you resort to using the universal key method of entry, the dog could get injured by glass. and if it happens on a hot day when you "just popped in to the shop", you'd need access pretty quickly to avoid the dog getting overheated.
so ... shouldn't EVERYONE with a dog/luggage guard be looking to add the above mod ?
