NOW AVAILABLE - Official iPod/MP3 interface |
|
Seen at http://www.landroverusa.com/us/en/Vehicles...nology.htm
"AUDIO CONNECTIVITY MODULE—COMING SOON IN 2007!
The Audio Connectivity module portal, neatly located in the center armrest, delivers high-quality sound and exceptional ease of use. Allowing connection of an iPod,® MP3, USB or other digital audio device, the system plays back and is controlled through the standard stereo head unit of the In Car Entertainment (ICE) system. Connection is simple using the cable provided and a choice of ports for iPod, USB or auxiliary interfaces. There are no stray cables visible inside the car and the center armrest provides a safe and secure place to store whichever digital audio device is connected."
Personally, I installed a cradle under the console - what a lovely surprise to hear my music as it should have been, instead of 'limited' via the headphone jack output... but this sounds interesting - especially the control aspect. Wonder if we can get album artwork on the satnav screen?

Quote:the system plays back and is controlled through the standard stereo head unit of the In Car Entertainment (ICE) system
What does that mean? I can't imagine that this system will offer as much as the Sync product that was mentioned a couple of weeks ago ( http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/business/6240479.stm . By "controlled" I suspect that only means that the volume is controlled through the radio. Or, with a bit of luck, maybe you can skip tracks, as on a CD. I can't really imagine that track details will be shown on the sat nav display.
Or does anyone know any better?
Eric
P.S. Now I see that there are other threads - http://www.disco3.co.uk/forum/topic8665.html - talking about something very similar. Is it the same thing?
