250mile round trip to Leeds today and the computer is saying 32mpg so not too bad (About 29 actual I guess) - mind you didn't go above 70mph more than a couple of times to get past summut. Just sat in cruise most of the way and had little in the way of hold-ups.
Would expect to see another couple of MPG in the summer.Mark.

Hi Guys
Read a recent topic on here 'Maximise auto economy' about driving in 6th at 50mph and giving good economy. I thought the engine would be labouring at only around 1400rpm. I gave in a go on the A3 on the way home on cruise for about 40 miles and got nearly 38mpg on trip!!
It doesn't seem that long ago that i was a 'Boy Racer' don't think i'm ready for driving at 50mph with everyone flashing past for a few MPG saved.

Hi Guys...I got 40 mpg on the computer on my D3 driving up to Manchester (all motorway driving). Made sure I was in 6th gear (will change up in coomand mode at 48 mph) and did around 55 for the whole journey.....very difficult to drive this speed due to trucks and lorries, but if you can, give it a go next time you do a 200 mile journey. Be interesting to see what the maximum mpg attained is!!MG

All, like the thread....sorry for appearing stupid but what are EGR valves and how much / easy are they to clean / change?

Exhaust Gas Recirculation valves; they let some exhaust gas into the intake manifold to be re-burned, it's an emissions thing. Also lets the engine/valves breathe soot and oil, hence the issues!
Go to search at the top of the page and type '+EGR +valves'.

If you drive slow, its a good practice to floor the accelerator and speed up (to legal speed of course...)sometimes to "clean" and release carbon build up, egr valves in diesel works (opens)at medium and small accel requirements, so carbon build up if you drive "miss daisy style" so, rock and roll to the engine to free it up wil be beneficial to make egr valves run along its open to close position unstucking them.
