Spoke to dealer this morning so it had been sent to previous owner rather than back to dealership. Just has tax to sort out now and should just be 3 days now. Bit apprehensive after reading all the problems on here but I m sure it will be fine. Got an 08 BMW 330i and it's warranty is out in June. It's had a lot of problems with injectors and ignition coils all done under warranty.

Has anyone been quoted 10 weeks to change number over? That's what the dealer quoted me today he says its the DVLA at fault because they have closed all the local offices.

10 weeks is nonsense, transfers or retentions are taking about 3 weeks. All now gong to Swnsea before local offices close down en mass. Sounds like dealer is trying to avoid having to deal with it and the delays it causes him due to lack of V5.

Not 10 weeks but 5-6 weeks.
Would seem the best way is to put private plate on retention which is still straight forward, days, this costs £105 as opposed to £80 for transfer, this lasts for 12 months only, if not done in this time then could be lost.
Once on retention can transfer to new vehicle which is what takes up to 6 weeks and I believe cost of this included in your £105 retention fee.
Seems the closure of local DVLA's has messed the system upD4 Landmark MY16 Santorini Black THE LAST

I have just arranged the allocation of a registration number from a retention document onto a vehicle for a customer, dealing directly with Swansea, and the whole process, from posting the papers, to receiving the registration document in the post, took just eight working days. Perhaps the process is becoming smoother now than we expected?
