OBD protector cap (keyless start only). Anyone tried one?
I have found this product to lock the OBD socket to prevent theft of keyless start (not keyless entry) Disco’s.

Made by a company called Triotek.
Was wondering if any members have fitted one of these and their thoughts on the product before I buy one.

well you can try, but the simplest thing is just "move" the ODB port. I have uncliped mine from the bracket and tucked it up further behind the lower panel. I know its not foolproof but in the case of someone putting the drivers window through and reaching down to plug a laptop into the ODB port they wont find it, and with the car deadlocked you cant open the drivers door so its not easy to revove the lower panel, so hopefully they will give up and go away.
At service time I just put the port connector back when it belongs.

Worth considering as a cheaper option. Whatever you do it will not prevent a determined thief. Just trying to make it difficult for the opportunistic scumbags.

At first glance I would agree with you as you don’t get much for your money. However, if this is a decent product with a good chance of preventing my D4 being stolen it could be worth it.
When you look at all the anti theft products out there, they all seem to be £100+

I bought one similar in late November for £20, the price has gone up since then. Ignore that the link says its for a ford, its universal.

Ive said before visit scrapyard remove an old odb socket and section of the loom and fit to your car whislt tucking yours up out of the way, will feel to the thief like normal but just not work, or look into it some more and I think you will finds theres a couple of pairs of canbus wires in the socket and a switch fitted into the correct wire will kill comms dead.
Happens all the time at work diag machine wont communicate as one of the obd socket pins has been pushed back by previous ham fisted mech.

I like the look of this one; looks quality. I wouldn’t mind extra for a refined / nicely finished product.
The cheap on linked to further down looks a little rough around the edges.
If you buy the £99 one then please report back...

Will do.
I liked the look of this product as it is discrete but it isn’t cheap. All of the other alternatives I have seen so far would necessitate moving the socket or risking serious shin damage in an accident. Following the replies I have had I am considering relocating the diagnostic socket - preferably to the dash end cap so that you can’t access it without opening the door.

Against the conventional wisdom of other forum members comments (Thank you all who contributed), I have gone ahead and purchased one of these OBD protector caps.
The kit is as per the link posted although the plastic insert is not required for the D4 due to the type of OBD socket (all explained in the instructions). The cap has a nice weight to it and the edges are all rounded.
Fitting is straight forward. The screws do not turn when fully wound into the cap which prevents possible stripping of the OBD socket. Due to the location of the socket it is difficult to apply pressure to the cap to stop it lifting when the screws are first inserted. I managed to get around this by removing the cap after the first attempt and refitted it a second time - this then seated the cap perfectly as the initial screw threads had been cut. The cap fits nicely tucked away under the lower dash and shouldn’t cause a hazard to the lower legs in the event of an accident.
To help prevent the window being broken in an aborted theft attempt I have also added an OBD disabled sticker to the window. This does however assume that the thieving Bs can read.
