OffRoader - D3 TDV6 S - It's home now

Hi,

I received my new Discovery 3 S on Tuesday. So far I've been driving about 800 km and can't stop smiling. Average diesel consumption has been a surprice to me, only 7.7 liters/100 in highway with average speed 88.5 km/h (says the computer), however I've not been pushing it so far yet.

It simply is great car to drive. My earlier benchmarks are Audi A6, BMW 525 (family's 2nd car still), Citroen C5, Volvo V70 and Honda CRV which all are good in some aspects but none of them has so many great features combined to one package as Disco3.

Next I'll start to spray some Tectyl antirost to the bottom, instal DVD system with 4 displays, Navi, phone and some other extra. In high taxation contries like Finland, you just can't order súch stuff as preinstalled, taxes would increase prices of accessories by about 150 % at least. Anyway, nice evening jobs to do.

Welcome. I suppose living in Finland, you will be hoping that the Webasto pre-heater is made to work!

Actually in Finland most cars have 220 V electric block heaters that is connected to interior heater. In large cars like D3, some 2000 W for interior and 700 W for the block should be sufficient even at -30 C degree (-22 F) as we might have at January. I will surely install such stuff also since the Webasto without preheater is quite useless (would not help in cold starts and during short trips at all).

However, have to say that AVERAGE climate in here is pretty warm, much better as people perceive. For instance, whole last week we had between +12 up to +17 degrees on afternoons. Last summer we had more than 20 days with over +27 degree (81 F) temperature, very nice.

Luckily not so many people know this secret i.e. the ones who know, have PLENTY of space for living and off roading Very Happy

me too - winter or summer (or anything in between Wink )
IIRC there are legal requirements for snowchains or studded tyres
Had a great time driving over there a few years ago, crossed into the artic circle and spent a few days with the Suomi eating their reindeer Shocked

M+S tires are OK

Normal Disco3's tires with M+S (mud + snow) are enough and legal to drive during winter. However, those might be very slippery i.e. drive slowly enough.

also check:

My recommendation is visit during winter, Feb-April is the best time in Lapland.
