Oh Bu**er! Reversing sensors not liking the rain?
I often get some unexpected chirping from the reversing sensors in the wet. Understandable I guess but today I reversed into a carpark space and before the beep went to a continuous tone I bumped a plastic post. Seemed odd as I wonder if because it was in the middle the sensors missed it. Didn't think I was going that quickly. Nothing major but it popped the tread plate out of the bumper and left a 2p sized ding in the bumper right in the middle. Wished I'd left my tow bar fitted now
Doubt if I'll get it repaired as would probably cost a King's ransom to get a new bumper fitted. Anyone any idea how much?

Used to get continuous sound from rear sensors in damp weather even if no obstructions behind. Usually cleared itself changing to first and back to reverse a few time.. It was a manual.2014 MY Discovery XS Indus Silver. Sadly gone. Second last LR of forty eight years continuous ownership.

i've had sensors on these cars stop working, and generate no errors.
To test park of level ground.
chock wheels
hand brake off.
select reverse ignition on (engine off!)
open rear
stand a couple of foot away from each sensor and slowly shuffle (walk) towards it. (ensuring other sensors aren't detecting you)
I stand side on. (so only 1 leg width infront of sensor)
Check to see all sensors work. you may find one that doesn't. (and near the dent!)
replace it!

Unusual for any of them to work if one is b**gered. Unless the disco is different to all the other cars I’ve had with sensors? If one is down they’re all down. Usually the one that’s not ticking when you put your ear up to it.
I do recall our old Range Rover sport had a fixed tow bar and the rear parking sensors always messed around until we removed it. The detachable one was fine though. As is our disco. I leave it in all the time though. Like op says. It’s a bit of extra protection especially as it’s swmbo’s car.

Not all failure modes are the same
As said I had one with 2 that didn't detect things. Couldn't believe it at first till I swapped um.
