Did you change the gearbox oil when doing the clutch, or top it up?
The filler plug isn't a level plug. The correct quantity is a complete drain & then refill with 1.6 litres of oil only. Do not fill until it's level with the filler plug.
I have found quite a few boxes overfilled & cause the oil to come out of the breather

very good point.
I changed MTF fluid a couple of years ago with the car on level ground - ISTR filling to the necessary 1.6l, but what I might do is drain it and measure the fluid quantity to see if she's overfilled - this would be my fault if it was the case. 
What's odd is that I haven't noted the leak until in the last couple of months - you would have thought that spitting from the breather in the event of overfill would have become apparent much earlier.
Anyway - I will drain and report back.
