I do mine every 7,500 miles and am thinking of changing to every 5000, it might not 'need' changing until 15000 but definitely runs better after an oil and filter change

It's been changed by my dealer the last couple of times, I know they use a fully synthetic but not sure which one, it's in for it's 30k service in a few weeks so I'll find out then.
If I go to 5k changes I'll start doing them myself to save a few pennies

Chris666,

I use Castrol Edge 5W/30 - Full Synthetic. It has all the right markings as per LR spec.

This is from the Castrol UK website.

I went on to the Castrol website and checked their recommendation for the Tdv6, which is GTX Magnatec 5w-30, they do not mention the Edge type of oil which I belive is the replacement for their longlife oils.

Yes, Edge is the new name for LongLife, which was mainly used by VW diesels. My VW Transporter used this oil and had 18,000 miles service intervals, so it must be good stuff. I can't see it would do any harm in a D3 though. A bit of a waste if using it for interim changes when it will only be in the car for 7,500 miles.

Changed mine after 6k, maybe I'm just old fashioned. I don't feel happy about leaving it for 15k, also my D3 appears to burn hardly any oil at all.
I used the Ford branded (made by Castrol) 5-30 semi- synthetic oil as it was on special offer & amazingly cheap.

How much oil is needed for an oil change? Is one 1 gallon can enough?
