Just got my new D4 and am delighted, but I have a couple of questions:
1) How do you access the electronic oil level indicator? - I don't want to appear thick, but I've read the manual several times and it says to do this through the service menu - but how do I get that? I doesn't seem to say. 
2) Is it bad to leave the suspension on road height or higher for a day or two when parked - or should I always drop it to access height?

1) Info cluster settings menu (down the bottom), but only with the engine off. You will only getting a reading from a warm engine that has been stopped for a while (seems to work after about 10 minutes)
2) Leave is just where you like......If you drop it to access height every time, you will work the compressor harder, but don't let that put you off doing that. Your preference.

Thanks Winger - I couldn't see it on the menu, but I had the engine on all the time (Too much reading here about battery issues!). I'll try it this evening.

Yup, you don't get the option whilst the engine is running and if you try before the 10 minutes are up, you'll get "data unavailable"

Yes I also found that out the hard way. Got "Unavaialable" when I tried it and asked the dealer to look at it. Got a snotty message back from them and told to RTFM. (read the f  manual.) I did but no where does it say that the data will be unavailable until the engine has been switched off for 10 mins or so!
However done some 10k miles now and still a pleasure to drive and no problems... Is that tempting fate?

Gents - the Handbook in your vehicles does have a NOTE about 'switching the engine off and letting the vehicle stand for ten minutes'.
It's on page 206 in my Handbook. Have copied exactly what mine says:
Note: Switch off the engine and let the vehicle
stand for ten minutes to allow the oil to drain
back into the sump. Do not start the engine.
The oil level can be viewed in the message
centre when the ignition is on, the engine
stopped and the transmission in Park (P).

Must have revised the handbook then. P206 about opening & closing the bonnet. Oil level info on P212 - no mention of 10 minutes etc - just how to access it from the service menu. I have had D4 since Sept 30th so probably h'book has been revised since then.

Bloody stupid idea! Used to have a C class with the same type of system.Talk about making things more complicated than needs be.What is wrong with a dipstick it is perfect.

Agree completely - my old E class was a royal PITA with all that waiting for 10 mins. Mind you it does save you getting oil on your clothes from a messy dipstick.

 Would it not be more practical to have a reading of the oil level when the engine is cold. In the history of motoring no one seems to have had a problem with this. It's only common sense to check your oil before starting,and not after the engine has been running (and perhaps being damaged) for some time. Cart before the horse as far as I'm concerned, and bloody annoying.

Finally got the hang of checking our oil using the elctronic gizzmo.
Get home, make a cup of tea, feed dogs etc. Then go back to car, get in, push start button without foot on brake. Clear the warning message by pressing OK. Navigate to service menu. Select Check Oil. Do what it tells you.
I had to put 1 litre in after 10,000 miles. It seems like the only place you can get the correct spec oil is at a LR dealer. Halfords didn't have it despite seemingly having every engine oil known to man. Disco 4 TDV6HSE

You can check the oil level with the engine cold. Just go into service menu and to oil level and there it is. So you can check it before you start the engine.

A dipstick that you could read would be good - the D3 bobble affair was not good.
Also - fuse that controls the panel and CC went on mine last week - no access to oil reading - thought it was a fault at first
So, I suggest you carry a couple of 5 amp spade fuses - position 51 - in the glovebox fuse tray and a pain in the to get to
