I was told by the dealership, if the oil is changed mid term (6 monthly), the D4 electrics somehow recognise this and show it as a service hence upsetting the electronic service scheduling in the on board computer....
Mostly correct as DPF-equipped D4s monitor the oil volume (increasing or decreasing) and apply quality algorithms on the driving style. There is no issue doing extra oil changes as long as the oil service reminder is reset, otherwise the monitoring and warning systems are compromised.

I use a Pela 6.5 litre
edit. Welcome to the forum
I also use this on the D3. I had to get some additional nylon tube as the standard wasn't long enough to reach the bottom of the oil pan. Makes it quick and clean.

^ Looks identical to one I borrowed off a mate. It worked but it was intolerably slow. Have you had more luck?Land Rover - Turning Drivers into Mechanics Since 1948

Agreed it's not the quickest - I tend to warm the engine a little first (not too hot ) then it's tolerable.
Clean and convenient though.

I have an oil extractor made by Sealey looks similar to the Pela one above and cost me about £50 a few years back. I'm a tradionalist when it comes to oil changes so plan to do an annual one out the sump plug and 6 monthly out the extraction tube D4 GS 12MY
