Engine Oil Pressure Warning Light

On another forum, someone was asking why the engine oil pressure warning light wasn't illuminated when the ignition is on but engine not running. The owner's manual says that when the ignition is switched on, it should illuminate for three seconds so the light can be checked and then go out. I have just checked my 8sp D4 and my warning doesn't come on at all. Either the manual is wrong or my system is u/s.

Could other D4 owners have a check on their vehicle and let me know what their vehicle does please. It would be useful to know if the vehicle is 6sp or 8sp ( auto gear lever or rising knob). It's a flawed system if there is no way of checking the integrity of the oil pressure warning system.

Apologies if this subject is covered elsewhere but I couldn't find anything.

Cheers all.

Mine doesn’t come on either.
A ploy by LR to give you no notice that the crank is about to snap.

Thanks WW. Is your D4 a 6sp or 8sp.

Does anyone know exactly where the low oil pressure warning light is on the instrument panel?

Has anyone seen the self test work as advertised?

I have just found the following thread from 2014. It seems that there is no self test for the oil pressure warning light despite what it might say in your manual. Also, the light won't come on unless a low pressure has been sensed for 5 seconds or more. This means that there cannot be a warning of intermittent low oil pressure, i.e. A flickering warning light.

Very alarming! (Please excuse the pun)

This is the case with a lot of cars, however, having just the ignition on would show the oil pressure being low for more than 5 seconds, hence the oil light should be on when the ignition is on but engine off..
