Oil pump 4r8q-6600-ad change or not
Hy guys, i'm in the middle of changing my timing belt and it looks like my oil pump has no reinforcements on top. The number is the side is 4r8q-6600-ad. Is this a pump which causes possible breakdown or can i leave it and continue without changing it?

Hi
I wouldn’t even hesitate in replacing it with the later one
Really no question - you should replace it if you want to sleep at nights !
I see your car is an auto, I wonder it has had a transmission coil change or better still power flush?
Good luck; keep us advised.

I'm not sure but does the starter motor have to be removed?
The answer will be in the thread referred to...

You dont need to remove it completely, just move it forward enough so you can get the rubber bung out of the hole and then insert the locking tool, it does not need bolting in as it stays in the hole ok.

Everything went fine. The pomp has been removed and i didn't encounter any obstacles during disassembling. My Disco has now 250.000 km's and the belt has been changed in the past by the previous owner. The timing was terribly off, the bolts were overtightened, but the pump survived for 90.000 km's. I ordered a new type
pump from Britpart for 67£, also ordered the crankshaft bolt and two seals (just in case). Normally everything should arrive this week, so next weekend i'll be busy again.

I personally would not use blue box stuff for any critical parts unless it had a G at the end of the part number

Yesterday i finished everything. Timing belt, tensioner, idle pulleys, accesory belt and tensioner and last but not least the oil pump is changed for a reinforced model. The disco runs like clockwork and fuel consumation has decreased spectacular! Before 11,7l/100km after 9,5l/100km.
