Oil Pump - early Disco 3 - stick or twist?

I'm sure I've read it on here somewhere that the early D3 oil pumps didn't fail at the tensioner mount like some later ones.

I'd welcome any confirmation (or otherwise!) of this as I head towards another potential belt change at 104K miles/13 years please!

Previous owner had belt changed at circa 40K miles and 7 years - no evidence of pump change in the receipts.

What about the auxiliary belt at the back of the engine - need changing?

Ta Thumbs Up

Change it to be sure, its not worth the risk..including the rear belt.

54 plate owner.

I changed the pump in June when I changed all belts and tensioners.

Not worth the risk. Why save £120 plus labour at the risk of a new engine.

It may sting but the peace of mind is worth it. Thumbs Up

The early pumps DO fail, though not as common as EU4

As DM as said the early ones do fail. Thats the thing with the early ones, they seem ok until the new belt is put on. This puts more pressure on the old mount and thats when they seem to snap off. I wont do any belt's on the early and up to the mid 2009's without changing the Oil pump now its just not worth the risk..

Flack Thumbs Up

Looks like I've been lucky with my two belt changes. Not sure I'll get to a third though.

Iv just bought a D3 57 plate with 114k on the clock.
Just sent it in to have the cam belt changed (£450)
Bloke says he’s “never had a oil pump fail and won’t be
Replacing the oil pump or the second belt because that never
Fails ether “) I live in Lincoln can everyone recommend at good
Land Rover specialist around here please because reading various threads

Ask him for a written guarantee that it won’t break Whistle
At that age and mileage belts should have been changed already.

£750 for the one belt is a rip off! You’ll be kicking yourself if you don’t get it done and it ruins your engine! Who is the ace mechanic we need to avoid?
