Don't buy any non OEM pump. Make sure it has FoMoCo in the casting. The identical pump can by supplied by Citroen. It's the same as the LR unit but half the price.
I got mine from Disco_Mikey along with belts and crankshaft bolt. Don't try ringing Mike as he is up to his neck in work (a good omen). PM him for a price. Also check out all the threads relating to 'oil pump' on this forum. Stacks of info.
If you do the work yourself, be aware that the fan bolt is left hand thread. Or advise your fitter if being done by an indy. A few hundred quid spent now could save thousands in future.
Ok Geoff, thanks for that, I have pm'd Disco_Mickey, BIL will be doing the service and checking the pump as much as he hates LR. Well he said it looked OK to buy, thought I better get his opinion seeing as he does spannering for a living.
We had the pump changed yesterday on our D3 for piece of mind.
Our My07 had it's belts done at 103K in June 2012. The pump & front belt were done yesterday at at 134K, so 31K miles on & almost 5 years on.
I was kind of hoping that the tensioner mounting on the original pump would be hanging by a thread so to speak to justify the expense but as you can see from the pictures below visually there is no sign of fatigue at all. I suppose I could try to see if i can get it x-rayed or whatever they do to metal to see out of interest if there are fracture lines in the casting, but i don't know if that's a expensive process?
Anyway, I can sleep easy now knowing there is one less thing to fix

Good thing you are changing your oil pump, as the picture definitely shows the weak casting.2007 Disco3 2.7 tdv6 SE

Is there a way to tell without removing the casing?

Hi Skagg,
Did you have a forum member do the pump casing change for you?
Do you mind if i ask the cost?
I think we're in a similar position to where you were in that we've just bought a 131k MY2008 on a 57 plate that had belts done at LR about 26k and several years ago. I spoke to the dealer that did it and as you'd imagine they said it wasnt done as no need and they only do them at customer request.
There are 2 indys near us and one gave a vaugue price for doing it but was well north of a thousand and the other said dont worry about it, worry more about the auto box.
So I'd like to get ours done if it isnt fitted with the stronger design, but not at £1,500 if i can help it?
Mine was done by the dealer. 824 notes. Replaced the oil pump, fitted a new front timing belt kit. 4.3 hrs labour.
Oh and a nice list of other things wrong from the complimentary health check
I think I saw somewhere on here if you remove the cooling shroud you can see the front of the pump and read the part number Gazellio. One of those cheap endoscopes you can buy to plug into your smartphone might be of help?MY16 D4 Landmark SDV6 (The Ice Maiden)

timing belt replacement - oil pump failure
It seems I am not alone. Two months after having out timing belt replaced, we have had the oil pump casing shear off in our 2007 LR Discovery 3 2.7L TDV6. We are looking at a very expensive job to replace engine
We have had it serviced at al requested intervals at LR service centre where we purchased vehicle.
It seems this is a common thread in this forum. Has anyone actually got LR to accept responsibility for this?

Don't bother wasting your time, you just end up hearing a well rehearsed set of excuses.

I have 2 currently awaiting engine replacements. Both exactly the same failures. Both had belts done early 2016 (elsewhere, I may add )
One customer wrote to LRCC, to be told that the car was 9 years old, and 6 years out of warranty, so they would provide any contribution...My D3 Build Thread

Sorry to hear of your issues - another forum member who lives close to you and does not believe this happens might be interested in your problems.
We have much better consumer laws in Aust and in theory LR could be compelled to contribute BUT the issue is enforcing your rights - up to you to take LR to court. Realistically though with a 10 yo car you are not likely to be successful and if you were compensation would be limited.
Find a wrecked Ford Territory diesel and buy it or if cheap enough the engine though it is often cheaper to buy the wreck and get the engine out of it and put into your car with your old ancillaries. The Territory engine will be a third of the price of the equivalent LR engine.
Go over to our local forum www.aulro.com and look up "Justinc" - he is a Tassie (Kingston) based Landrover Independent and knows all about these issues - he has a good reputation.

Territory's are a EuroIV emissions engine. Apparently D3s switched over to EuroIV in MY07 as indicated on the VIN not the year of purchase. Also some MY07 may have slipped thru as EuroII. In summary worth checking ... not sure a EuroII ecu and loom is plug n play with a EuroIV engine.
Edit: I know the thermostat is not plug n play (from euro2 to 4)

All calendar 07 bought cars in Aust are 07MY or 08MY and Euro 4. 07MY started in the second half of the 06 calendar year and 08MY started in the second half of calandar 08.
But yes the Vin tells the MY year - the number before the A is the MY.
