oil spec

Just took my car to the local dealer Taggarts Motherwell for a service a and found that they have used 10-40 oil and not the handbook reccomended 5-30.
What's the point of using a dealer if they don't even use the recomended lubricants?

Can anyone tell me if it will make much difference?

I'd take it back to them for correct oil & new filter.

There's a big difference in oil viscosity characteristics.

Wife went and brought oil for top up at Barretts Ashford and they supplied her 0-30 and not 5-30. I rang and questioned this, there reply was that was what they put in on services and that was approved by LR Question

0-30 oil has better viscosity characteristics than 5-30. Provided the full oil specs meet LR, there won't be a problem.

According to their website Halfords have it in 1 litre and 4 litre containers although the page I saw only had 1 litre packs at £15+. Surprised

OK peeps. Castrol don't do a 5W30 oil for diesel engines. But they do a 0W30 'Edge' for oil burners.
http://www.castrol.com/castrol/productdeta...Id=7027068

So being a newbie to diesel can you just use the regular Castrol 5W30 oil from Halfords or do you need an oil specifically for diesel engines???

Thanx.

G
