I had a service done not long ago and afterwards easily got 36mpg on a run to London and that was proper tank fill, not gauge
Seconded. Coming home from the London to Brighton Run back to Yorkshire, the Trip stated 39.2 mpg overall however the actual measured reading was 36. Pulse driving definitely helps too. Coast whenever you can without letting the speed drop too much at any downward incline you find yourself on. Slowly back on the gas and you'll get good results.
Ian, from IRB Developments, who was following behind said it would release a small puff of smoke from time to time but that was obviously me coming back onto the power after a coast. It works though, there on paper.

WE ARE AVERAGINE 350 MILES ON A TANK FULL IS THIS GOOD OR BAD YOURS SOUNDS GREAT.
I want some of that.
Has yours been remapped.
Hi and welcome, there are quite a few factors to consider when working out MPG and there are loads of D3/4 owners who accept 350 MPG to be normal and acceptable. Prior to a remap I was averaging 400 miles to a tank with a mixture of normal driving and heavy right foot driving , I have now blanked the ERG valves and cleaned the air flow sensor (which was very dirty), I have yet to do the full tank test with the new setup, but I can tell by watching the fuel gauge my MPG has increased . I think cleaning the air flow sensor is a good place to start, and I don’t use supermarket diesel .

After 2 tanks I appear to be getting around 39MPG now. I will keep checking and post here when I have done a few thousand miles.
This is really strange.

how many miles do you get out of a tank, I generally get close on 600 and an mpg of 32ish. That's with egr blanked, itg air filter, bas remap, fuchs engine oil which is supposed to be good for fuel economy, oh yeah and a cleaned air flow sensor!1964 Series IIA SWB Truck Cab - gone

That sounds fantastic. I've not had my D3 very long, but it's currently telling me 25.5 mpg, and about 440 miles/tank, which is a bit less than I was hoping for, tbh,
Where d'you take your D3? I'm not all that far away (Banbury-ish)...

I picked my D3 up from the dealers and drove from leeds to London ave 31mpg in 2009 since then the numbers have slipped slowly but surely and I now get 24mpg, I have tried cheap and expensive fuel cleaned the MAP sensor etc to no avail!

Yeah, I picked mine up having had the EGR valves sorted last week and got 33mpg on the way home (though that's about 17 miles with quite a lot of downhill) but it's since settled at about 25.5. Must get out & take a look at the MAP sensor, but I'm not entirely hopeful. I'm interested to see how gordons's consumption goes...

Flippin' eck. I try hard not to be heavy-footed (though I do miss the spur of an instantaneous MPG reading from my A6), but the difference here is pretty staggering. My commute's mainly country lanes, but I'd have to drive like a nun to get near that.
If all goes well possibly, however I do have the rack on, also I found some MTRs in the barn so I put those on I'm not as good as I once was........but I'm as good once as I ever was.
