OMG 42.6 MPG
[/url]
My D3 was in to see the man that keeps my bank account empty this week, it has been 4 weeks since my D3 was there so due an expensive visit and another clean. Anyhow they did a few metal bits and the gearbox filter and oil so nothing really but.......
after 250 miles of getting it back the fuel gauge has not dropped half as much as it used to and the dash computer is showing 42.6MPG, photo above. I will have to do a full tank and work it out from actual but at the moment this appears to be correct.
Phoned the garage but.............. blank answers and just to pop back monday as this shouldn't be.
Any thoughts apart from the obvious about not complaining.
P.S. Haven't changed my driving style
P.P.S. Haven't put unleaded in a diesel
P.P.P.S. Tyres next week, might change to 28MPG as it used to be.

I suspect they disconnected the pedals and replaced them with ones directly connected to the transfer box so that every time you push the pedals you travel a little bit farther and you think you are accelerating and changing gear. 42mpg is what the D3 does with the engine off.....!
Check they refitted an air filter element and it's not free flowing unrestricted/dirty air - other than that let us know what they did so we can maybe get the same done

They filled it with red diesel and the car recognised this and is showing you the equivalent mpg based on the cost difference Tony

I had a service done not long ago and afterwards easily got 36mpg on a run to London and that was proper tank fill, not gauge

so...... and update
I was getting about 28.5 to 30 MPG using tank fill and odometer readings.
Car went to garage and had Track Rods replaced and autobox filter and oil.
Just done a tank fill calculation and I am getting 39.67 MPG.
I have had a look and everything looks normal, air filter connected etc.
Any thoughts?

If replacing the oil and gearbox filter returns a decrease in fuel consumption of 10 mpg, this is a most important find of modern times! Be interesting to see what a few tank fillings average out at.

This may sound blindingly obvious, but have you checked the tyre pressures? Have they been over-inflated, as that'll improve the MPG...

Checked my tyre pressures, no issues there.
OK, done approx another 350 miles, filled up. The MPG is still showing 39.5ish. This is really good but waiting for the engine to go pop.

I'm not technical.
The Indy that I use is brilliant, what ever they put in and the volume of oil would be the right one.

Be interested to know what has happened, best I have ever had was a genuine 33mpg on a motorway run. I would be surprised if it is genuine and if you find out what they did to cause it then let us all know Alex
