One indicator arrow flashing fast - (Fixed!) |
|
I've just noticed that my right hand indicator arrow on the dashboard is blinking faster than the one on the left. I've taken a look at all of the lights as I believe this is how bulb faults are indicated but they all appear to be working correctly.
The sound for the indicators isn't working but it was like that when I bought the car and I hope to get around to replacing the speaker soon. Other than that, I'm out of ideas. Has anybody else come across this problem? I aint broke but brother I'm badly bent...

Have you got LEDs fitted in the lights anywhere? The bulb failure detection needs to see a load on it to work unless it's been designed for LEDs. Have you got D4 rear lights fitted? They need a resistor on the D3 and it might have fallen off.

If it isn't any of the above suggestions it could be a bit of corrosion on the back of a bulb. You could try unplugging each bulb and plugging it back in. Might work.

Ha ha, good point Narpy, I hadn't but have now and they are good. Took another look at the back Pete and the left indicator seems to be a fair bit brighter than the right, so I assume that the bulb is on its way out (if it isn't the contacts). Thanks for your help guys! I aint broke but brother I'm badly bent...

If you get the Halfrauds ones, they are cheap, but the better ones are the GE bulbs. I've used their bulbs for a while, including the LED replacements on my Disco and Sprinter without any issue.
If you've got a trade card with them, they're ridiculously cheap.

Thanks for that. I went to Halfords and picked up the GE ones (#382 12v 21w p21w) 2 for about 4 quid (not sure exactly how much but not expensive), anyway replaced both rear indicator bulbs and no more fast flashing! The old right hand bulb looked like it was starting to blacken so probably was on the way out.
Nice one folks, thanks again for your help! I aint broke but brother I'm badly bent...
