One xenon bulb turns off after 3 minutes

Hi, I have a strange problem with my D4.

After starting, both xenon bulbs will turn on, and some minutes after the passenger side will turn off. It might come back, most likely it doesn't, but if I flick the switch to off and on again it will come up. The driver side no problems.

I've been to the dealer, they say it could be the lamp or it could be the module sitting bellow the headlight. They also say this module needs to be coded on the computer if replaced.

Now, I've checked with my IID tool, no error to be found. No error on dash.

Anybody has had the same problem? Could the module located on the bottom of the headlight be activated with the IID tool? Should I just buy another D3s xenon bulb and see if it works? or switch from the driver's side?

Try switching the bulbs over - might just be as simple as a duff bulb......

I had something similar on a D3 except it went out after 26 seconds. Cured itself and happened on about 3 or 4 occasions (multiple times on each occasion).

Sorry, I can't say why it happened, some suggested the thermal cut out in the CJB, not sure if that applies to D4

OK, the issue was not clearing by itself so I ordered a pair of Xenarcs, I saw I had to remove the grill and the complete head light, so I ordered new high beam bulbs and LED indicators for both sides to change all the bulbs while I am at it!

The bulb that was making the problem was white in the middle (compared to the good one, which was clear)

Now after changing both of the have the same output, same boot up time and yet I have to see if still the one that was making the issue if it will turn it itself after a while

Should I have bought 2 new ballasts as well? They seem to be 40 GBP online for new one, how often do they need to be changed? I'm thinking it wouldn't hurt to change both ballast, as long as no coding is involved. Or if it works...?

I think you've found the problem … the bulb sounds like it was on it's way out, so I don't see why there is any need to change anything else. (otherwise, bulb sales folks would be trying to flog you ballasts with bulbs. )
