Opie oils wrong D4 recommendations.

Whilst searching for engine oil for my D4 on Opie oils web site and being invited to put my vehicle details in a search Opie came up with the following, none are suitable or meet LRs recommendations of acea C1, wss-m2c934-b.
No offence directed at Opie just a heads up as peeps may be putting wrong oil into D4s with dire consequences.

Drop them an email and let them know. A lot of the lube manufacturers' data is wrong which is where this comes from I bet.

Back in December 2017 I posted on here about the very same thing.

I ordered from their oil finder Shell Helix AF, for some reason I checked the following day on the Euro Car Parts site and it stated the correct oil for my car should be Helix AF-L, I telephoned Opie and explained the error and they changed the oil.

I am surprised nothing has been done to correct this error.

I wonder how many people are running with incorrect oil as a result of using their oil finder.

Yeah, but how much more is lt than the oils they are recommending?- same with the difference in price of Shell Helix AF and the correct AF-L, nearly double Shocked very deceptive to the uninformed IMHO.

It must be old info. From what i can see, Shell AF is suitable for some D4s. But only the 3.0l without DPF. (its 913 Spec)

I haven't looked into the others they recommend though.

Did you put your number plate in or just 3.0l D4?

Yes as first photo, although I have obliterated it.
I have informed them of the mistake and pointed out the snapped crank and rotating bearings syndrome of the TDV6 engine but as yet not had a response.

Shell Engine Oil (Helix Ultra Professional AF-L 5W-30 - 5Ltr)

Is the correct oil for the D4 3.0 2010-2016

I use:

Shell Engine Oil (Helix HX7 Professional AF 5W-30 - 5Ltr)

Which is correct for the 2.7l D3 Engine.

It is interesting that most websites do not differentiate between non sop start/dpf and non stop start/dpf D4 re oil specification. However the benefit of the AF-L (C1) seems to be in relation to the Stop-Start cars.

Performance Level:
ACEA C1
Ford WSS-M2C934-B
Description:

Fully synthetic fuel economy low-SAPS oil for diesel & petrol engines and in particular suitable for vehicles fitted with Three Way Catalysts (TWCs) and Diesel Particulate Filters (DPFs) to meet European emissions requirements.

Application:
Diesel engines fitted with DPFs to meet the latest European emissions requirements
Suitable for use in some of the latest Mazda, Jaguar and Land Rover vehicles
Features & Benefits:
Low ash content helps reduce particulate build up in diesel particulate filters (DPFs)
Low sulphur and phosphorus content reduces poisoning of gasoline catalytic converters
Increased thermal and oxidation stability reduces the oil ageing allowing extended drain intervals
Reduces environmental impact through reduced emissions
Low drag which means more power and lower fuel consumption

Can somebody confirm when the DPF was first fitted to the D4 3.0.

Was it when 3.0 TDV6 upgraded to 3.0 SDV6 or in 2014 when the stop start was introduced?

DPF fitted 2010 onwards.

As per the Castrol oil selector;

2.7 and 3.0 without DPF uses 5w/30 A5 (Magnatec)

3.0 with DPF uses Edge (pro) 5w/30 C1

Opie do sell Castrol Edge Professional C1 5w-30 (Land Rover) Fully Synthetic Engine Oil at a reasonable price, complete with Land Rover logo on the container.

Never seems to come up on a search against the vehicle I found though.

They have Castrol Edge Titanium on offer at the moment that’s what attracted me to them, but it is not C1, it’s C5 ISTR. Does C5 supersede C1?

From LR, the Edge Pro C1 is £14.50+vat. We do the the same oil at £10+vat. The only difference is we don't have the fancy bottle as we buy it by the drum!
