I have ordered a D4 SE here in Australia and in the small specifications book there is a $560 option to add USB and touchscreen to the sound system.
I would like this because I can then view the 4x4 display and the stereo would just be that much easier to use.
It does not say you have to order the HDD navigation system in the book but i have been told you do.
This is a $4430 option that i do not want to spend this sort of money when you can get a great hybrid navigation system for under $1000.
Is it true that you need to order sat nav to get this touchscreen.

Congrats on your order - I have the same order (D4 3.0 SE) and had the same question. Unfortunately the consensus is that the touchscreen option must be "twinned" with the SatNav so that the combined price is >$5K.

Congrats on the order.
I have ordered mine in Alaska White with HBA, rear electronic diff and sunroof.
I ordered two weeks ago and have been told i have to wait till July. 
Very excited.
I thought that it was a waste to spend the money on Sat nav.
The standard stereo is very plain and the screen is cheap black and white with a sh*t font.
It looks really cheap in comparison to the rest of the vehicle. Especially at the money spent.
I am thinking of getting apple Ipad and getting a window mount and putting it just above the normal position.
This would give me 9.7 inch touchscreen with my choice of road sat nav (Tom Tom, Sygic or Navigon etc)
It will also give a few offroad otions like Motion-x, memory map and possibley some pdf maps of Australia offroad.
You could also use it for so many other things like music, movies etc
Any thoughts???

I agree with you about the look of the non touchscreen being so downmarket in relation to the rest of the car. I don't have an iPod, but was keen on the iPod connectivity being controlled from the car touchscreen and steering wheel controls, then having my whole library of music in the car.
The idea about the iPad with TomTom is a good one - I was going to do something similar, but not necessarily mount it until a long distance trip etc. Suzuki Vitara 3dr
