Ordered a 2008 Discovery this morning
Hello Everyone, what a great site. I have been reading the posts on here for several weeks whilst we decided which car to go for and thought I would join today after placing my order this morning. I have ordered a 2008 Model Year Discovery 3 TDV6 Auto in Cairns Blue with Ebony Leather, privacy glass, active diff, tow pack, rear air conditioning and a TV. I am expecting the car to arrive in July. I'm not 100% convinced on the colour and I have another week to change my mind.
I went for the active rear diff as a plan to go on a couple of ski trips and I wanted to make sure we had the best chance in the snow.
I'm not too sure on the wood trim in the 2008 model but I suppose there will be a few aftermarket options to change it in due course.
I have read all of the reviews both negative and positive but on the whole nothing meets the needs of a young family like the Discovery. Believe me, we have tried them all!
Audi Q7 - Massive but no real usable space benefit inside.
New X5 - Not a 4x4 for taking to the top of the hills in Avoriaz
XC90 - Second place but not good value for money compared with Discovery
ML - Great engine and drive but short on space
GL - Expensive for what it is
Touareg - It's a Touareg
I'm love to meet some other owners when I have mine but I won't be doing any serious off-roading other than in the snow.
Please could someone tell me if there is another place for the Ipod connector to go rather than up on the dash?
I'm sure I'll have plenty more questions to ask along the way but I just thought I would say hello to everyone!!
colour is very personal, I too have a young family and believe me, the freeview cbeebies channel has kept the littlies quiet many a time
If you are dead set on a black interior, try a lighter colour...? silver perhaps or arctic frost.
I've an alpaca interior and being leather, you can clean it easily so again good for kids!
lighter colour interiors work well with dark paint like blue or, as in my case, black

Thanks for your reply. The 2008 Model has rouched leather or something similar with creases so I thought the light leather may be difficult to clean. I like the idea of silver but there seems to be so many around that i wanted something different. We're going to spend the weekend contemplating.
Does the scotchguard polish and leather protector actually work or is it just a gimmick?

welcome hightry.
whatever colour & combo you go for, the key thing is you made the right decision on your vehicle choice!🏴
Hi you have made the right choice does not mater the color is personnel Home of RLD Hidden winch mounts Spare wheel Locks Trailer Body Fabrication ray@rld-tech.co.uk D3/4 sump plates MY 14 sump plates and the Discovery Sport wheel protectors Discovery 5 wheel locks

I'm biased but I love the Cairns/Alpaca combination. As was mentioned, black seems to work better with lighter paint colours. But, in the end, it IS your personal choice

I think Silver is still a good colour for the D3, although I think Ken could set a trend...................

Alpaca reminds me of the interiors of Morris Marina's and early Disco 1's
I considered the lighter leather, but black stands up over time - Alpaca can only become dirty IMHO. I certainly haven't wished I had changed my mind after more than a year and I still LOVE the exterior colour. The older I get, the more I realise that people confuse wrinkles for wisdom

in the US here but just got an 07 black/alpaca and like the "darkness" of it seeing as my other rovers have been 1996 D1 white/tan - still have it 200k miles, 2004 d2 giverney/aspen (my favorite) set up for road trip/camping for my mom with dual batteries, inverter, air compressor line out, solar charging, camp lamps 4 corners of roof, light-bar with extra light, power cooler, etc. and last year I had an 07 RRsupercharged but sold it and got the new Disco 3 last week with $5000usd discount.
this one has my own custom installed hannibal rack from the D2, awnings side and rear, kaymar rear bumper/tire carrier, arb bullbar/winch, dual batteries, power inverter, compressed air line out, and not sure what else yet.....
the last lr3 I had was tonga green with alpaca. i know it gets dirty easier but i call it "patina" black interior on the rover just isn't happy to me. i liked black inside the carrera though.
p.s. we don't have Cairns blue offered in the US, that one is really beautiful and mine would be with alpaca.96 Disco I, 210,000 miles - still going strong
04 Disco II, Vienna/Tundra, +2" lift, onboard air, 120V...
