Ouch my nuts!!! Advice please!

My wife took my D3 in to ATS to get new wheels/tyres fitted. They got three wheels off OK, but managed to knacker the locking wheelnut socket AND the last locking wheelnut.

Failing to get the last wheel off, ATS put them all back on again and called me. I sent my wife and D3 to local LR dealer who said they will need to chisel off my damaged locking wheelnut AND I need to buy a set of 4 new locking wheelnuts AND a new socket. Grrrr. Not covered under warrenty of course.

LR dealer reckons that ATS must have used an airgun on the locking wheelnuts when they should have loosened them with an torquewrench first.

Question 1. What is standard practice in ATS-type places? Should they use an air gun or not?

Question 2 Are ATS liable for my damaged nut etc and can I expect them to pay for the new nuts, socket and labour to chisel the damaged one off?

all advice gratefully received.

Partial Answer

Q1 - I had tyres swapped onto new alloys on my other car about 6 weeks ago by Kwikfit. They said they had to use manual tools because of new legislation just introduced. Not sure if this is common across all tyre fitters.

(I was pleasantly surprised by their service)

Q2

They had removed the other nuts etc without incident and therefore unless they can prove that your last nut was faulty in any way shape or form then they should be liable for any damages caused.

my local rubber emporium had no issues with mine using air powered tools.

They should be liable for any damage caused.
