Oz Tent with no roof rack
Will an OZ Tent RV2, fit in the back of a Disco 3 with all the rear seats folded OK, or will it be too much of a mission? Back will be pretty full with stuff for Morocco so I'm hoping I can squeeze it in OK?
Cheers

You have only 1.9 meter space in the back of the D3. RV 2 is 2.0 meter packed.
Go to:
au.oztent.com/products/viewProduct.asp?productid=2[/code]D3 bullbar-spots-roof rack with spots-ladder-long range tank-swing out spare wheel carrier- upgraded tow bar-dash console-internal water tank-duel awnings-drawer system & T T.
An RV4 fits down the centre and end roughl where the front of the centre cubbybox is, so your RV2 should be fine.LRs are a fond memory, apart from the maintenance.
Yep , agree with MrH, my RV4 does like wise, I just sits on the back edge of the center arm rest.

Sounds OK but could get annoying on long journeys. Would it fit then if you lay it diagonoly accross?
If you put all the seat down, I expect so, but we had two in the back.

Only if you need to open the centre cubby box easily while driving.
Been a good few thousand miles with mine inside the D3 (RV3), Ok for 4 people.

Went to the shop today, decided the RV3 fits my needs best. Tried it in the back of the car, yes it does fit. But with all the stuff for Morocco and fridge etc its going to be abit of a mission!
So I've decided to invest in some roofbars! If I leave the car anywhere I can remove it from the bars and put it in the back over the cubby box.
What is the best way of safely attaching the oz tent to the bars, what kind of fixings should I use? Bungie type ones of is there something more suitable?
I've never had a roof rack or carrid anything on a roof, so I need an idiots guide. Really don't fancy an Oz tent coming off at 70mph!!

I think you can buy an Oztent mesh rack to fit to the bars Duncan

I thought the RV-3 and 4 are same length packwise.
I have an rv-4 and got hold of some lengths of electricians cable tray which should help in transporting it . I'll do a top and bottom build so I can lock it in place and leave it on the roof rack.
You could do the same sort of design for bars I'm sure. Alternatively ratchet straps would be best to hold it to the bars - careful not to put too much pressure on them though as you could bend the bars inside - bungees may cause the pack to appear over your bonnet and disappear back again over and over again
failing that Boab have a kind of carrying backet available on their site if you want to check that out. http://www.boab.biz/Pages/Oztent%20RV%20Th...sories.htmA happy childhood ... is the worst possible preparation for life.
Are these baskets ok on just the two roof bars, and can you still open the tailgate with the basket on? - always wondered.

If NeVeTaS has not already bought LR roof bars then maybe a better solution would be to buy the 3 rhino rack bars as shown on BOAB website with the basket on I believe that every human has a finite number of heart-beats. I don't intend to waste any of mine running around doing exercises.

OK I called BOAB and explained I only had the LR bars, and not the 3 as per the picture.
He said this is fine, just fit the first bar as far forward as it will go, and the second bar as far back as it will go. They did one like this the other day and it was fine.
So have now ordered the basket. This Oztent is starting to get very expensive!
