Now we have nearly bought a D3 in Sydney just getting an NRMA pre purchase done on Thursday. Although its only done 6k thought it best for any warranty issues before being trucked here to the woops! Now my question is, as Sydney prices seem to be 1000's of % cheaper than here,
1. Were in Sydney would be the best place to get paint and interior (cloth) protection done?
2. Do they truly work? Or is it best to get dyi kits?

It is only my opinion but paint protection is unecessary expense. I decided not to get when the stealer asked if 'I wanted fries, with mine. I believe it does work but if you put hard shell wax on regulary as a sacrificial layer it is cheaper. I have always paid for a detail to mine when selling but if yoy are going to keep it for a lifetime it could be worth it.
Interir would be ggod idea but price a set of tailored seat covers as an option. it is always good idea to have a set of loose covers for dirty situations off roading, but make sure you alow for the airbags in the seat.
I am assuming it is a first buid if it has cloth seats, second build have leather as standard.
Before you take it to woop woop you make sure the enhancement has been done.

paint protection is worth the effort, diy though. I've used products from here and so far so good, at least I know spills wash up easily (kids). a bit of elbow grease to apply but I've already found it easier to remove bugs from the front even after they have been on for a week unlike my old unprotected car. I geuss time will be the real tester.

What should I ask the dealer? ie "have all the lastest enhancemensts been compleated" or should I make a great list of the recorded issues and get him to check them of?

but this is the detail:
Vehicle Enhancement Program
Is now on GTR so the dealers should know about it. A034/A036V3 Service Action.
Its basically an amalgamation of everything we have ever come up with as a solution on this site over the past 18 months, including the infamous tailgate strut check!
It also looks like we early model owners will loose the pre-heat function.
Compressor part number check, with either a repair kit application, or a renewal of the compressor if it meets certain criteria.
Installation of the overlay harness on the park brake.
Check of a grommet on the enviro box.
Many software upgrades.
Does not include the upgrades to the Infotainment system, or Park Distance control ECU replacement.

best to make sure this has been done because it covers the major problems of the first build, air supension and hand brake issues, they do a check and re-install new software.
Give it a test drive on unsealed roads too and if there is a knock from the steering get them to replace the lower steering. someone else may know the TSB # for that. Summary:
A customer may report a concern of a minor knocking noise from the front end of the vehicle (steering) when driving over small bumps or undulating/rough road surfaces.
Cause: Dynamic movement in the lower steering shaft sliding joint due to low sliding loads.
Action: Should a customer express concern regarding the above, refer to the Service Procedure detailed in this bulletin to determine the source of the noise/excess movement. 2005, TDV6 S, Auto, 190k miles, owned from new, V8 Brake Upgrade, Nancom Evo, RLD protector, BAS EGR blanking & Remap, separate ATF cooler, changing all the fluids ahead of time.
