Painting Bumpers
Ok, so the new toy arrives next week, and like all small boys I am too excited to wait for it to arrive before I start annoying everybody about it. So I thought I'd ask a quick question or two if I may.
The car is Zermatt silver (06 SE model) and looks just like the one at the top of this page.
Can I successfully paint the f/r bumpers and wheel arches to match the rest of the car? Has anybody done this and is there a photo or two knocking about anywhere? I'm conscious of their original finish.
If I can't paint them, I've found a man with some reasonably priced pre-painted replacement bits. The thing is I'm not sure whether the later bumpers which had the paint option, or indeed the more recent ones which are painted as standard (if they're any different?) will fit?
Anybody able to shed a bit of light?
Cheers,
Ben

You can do it, Wiggs and ISTR ronp (amongst others) have had theirs done. Although if they're pre painted, will save you a shed load of hassle, provided that they've been painted properly.
Theirs were black thoiugh, and getting silver to match up exactly is likely to be a hell of a challenge.
Only MY09 bumpers and wheel arches are slightly different, so you should be OK if it was for any other year before those.

I looked at doing this on mine but was advised against it and some have reported peeling of the paint due to poor prep ect.
I also have Zermatt silver but decided not to do mine as I seen one in the flesh with silver arches and it looked .
It looked like it belonged to a pimp who would never be seen with it off road.
I think the designers got it just right with the black arches and trims, it looks really smart when cleaned up and adds to the rugged good looks of the vehicle.
But each to their own
Spend the money on an expo rack and ladder or something else to make it look the mutts I have something to say! It's better to burn out... than to fade away!

Despite my initial distaste... I think it looks great
This is interesting.....no offence to DG, but IMO the silver MY09 looked a bit wrong in the early photos....the white one looked downright bloody awful....
....but....
last week in the dealers they had both a silver and white MY09s sitting in the showroom with full colour coding....and guess what?
They looked brilliant....I really liked them....nothing slab sided or 'top heavy' about them at all - they looked really good.
but seeing the photo again now and it still looks weird to me....
Why do they look so different in the photos compared to real life....
Ben - if you don't want to go the route of painting or fitting MY09 stuff, I seem to remember that The Large One from Yeovil Land Rover was selling some <=MY08 colour coded wheel arches quite cheap - not sure if they were available in Zermatt though....2006 Discovery 3 TDV6 SE AutoBuckingham Blue 2007 Golf GT DSG

never been accused of looking like a pimp before
As I don't have the vehicle yet (am I allowed to call it a car btw????) I couldn't remember what the finish was on the black 'plastic'. I suspected that paint might not take, good to have some confirmation though
I've seen the full colour in the blue/black/grey in the flesh and they work really well. I hadn't seen the silver one though apart from the cgi version on the LR website, so I appreciate the picture DG.
It's the black rear bumper that I struggle with a little bit in the photos. It looks like I'll have to wait until it arrives next week. You know, I'm actually a little excited
