Passenger Carpet Soaking (according to the wife) |
|
Morning Folks
Got a message on Monday sto ay that whilst doing the nursery run ..the passengar carpet was soaking wet.!
Trying to rule out some factor, as the Disco has not been ran for 2 week sand has been stood still so im ruling any water egress from the underside.
She did say that there was a full day of rain on sunday ...so perhaps a door seal etc
Also I topped up the windscreen wash approx 2 weeks ago before i went away with work and noticed that the blue windscreen wash was weeping from the headlight washers..which I cant say ive seen before.
Home tonight to asses the damage
Anyone been through a similar situation and any pointers?
Thanks in advance

Sounds like the dreaded sunroof drain tubes I replaced both of mine with the updated fittings on the ends. There is a ton of reading about it on here

depends on whether car is on completely flat ground. Any angle and it will roll to one side or tuther.
I have read it finds its way into the low point -wiring channel under the plastic step plates and when this overflows it soaks the carpet (Big sponge layer underneath carpet holds the water unless dealt with) to that side...

I’ve been through soaking carpets since I got the car in January, and hopefully now sorted it.
The 4 main causes seem to be
1: A pillar external trim clips - need an upgrade kit
2: Sunroof drains blocked - front drains run down internal A pillar and exit thru body in the passanger and drivers passanger side is a PITA to get to
3: A/C unit drain hoses blocked - again both footwell, but towards centre consol this time
4: cabin air filter/ plenum chamber - water runs down windscreen, past scuttle panel seal, and into upturned air intake for ventilation system air intake; easy check ... just locate air filter compartment behind glove box, open the door to access the filter, and see if it’s wet.
Big issue is if it feels wet on surface of carpet, need to check if it is saturated underneath, as you don’t want water collecting around the wiring looms in the channels running from front to back of car.
Need to lift the plastic tread plate at front door so you can expose the edge of the carpet and stick a hand under it to feel how much water there is beteen the metal floor of the car and the rubber sound dampening on the underside of the carpet.
I’ve got a few posts asking for help on all this, and in them are links to LR water ingress guides and photos etc on how to deal with this.
I’ve even got a YouTube vid linked somewhere on how I flushed my drains, but tbh you need to replace the drain elbows if they have never been done.
If you need more direction, feel free to drop me a PM

Well im hoping that its all back to normal now as the Sunroof drain pipe was blocked...attached the bike pump onto it and a couple of pumps and it was clear.
Just hope its not popped off the end of where it goes

My passenger front drain also blocked a few weeks back. Poked it out with a bit of washing line, and flushed out what I could with lots of fresh water
2 weeks later, it has begun to dry out
Only been meaning to do it for the last 2 years My D3 Build Thread

Long term, though, you ought to think of changing the elbows.
The design has changed, and the old ones were a sort of “self closing” cross shaped end; will see if I have an old one to photo.
Problem being is that, whilst they let water out, they ‘hold onto’ solid debris that gets washed down, and eventually block.
The new ones are open ended to avoid the issue, but then don’t provide the protection of water ingress when wading thru deep water?
Plus, the way the drain hose connects to the elbow has also changed, so the old system may allow water to leak through the interface if it accumulates standing water in the drain, whereas the new one is more resistant.
For £5 an elbow + drain (if you ask for the rr sport one and NOT the D3 one) it’s not massive cost to change the 4, though the time investment, particularly for the front passenger side given the CJB removal, may be more of a worry.
I reference the part number and LR bulletin about this in the post here
