Passenger Door Lock With Key
Partly due to forum scare stories and partly due to paranoia ( ) I decided to see if I could get the passenger door manual unlock to work and in common with many posters problems, it appears to be seized through lack of use.
The key does turn a bit but feels quite firm. It turns about 45 degrees forward ( anti-clockwise ) and half as much the other way. I've larupped it in WD40 and will have another go tomorrow but how much movement should there be to successfully unlock the door manually?
Is a quarter turn forward what I'm looking to achieve?

There is not a lot of movement Ian, when I did mine I was putting all my weight behind it and expecting a big click but all i got was a quarter turn and it unlocked The happiest of people don't necessarily have the best of everything;
They just make the best of everything they have.

Pull on door handle as your moving key that worked on our Los Angeles LR3 to get it to open.

Job catch up time.
Firstly, to gain access to the passenger door lock key hole you need to remove the cover. You do this by inserting your key blade underneath the handle:

Once you've removed the cover you can see how the key blade releases the catch allowing the cover to pull off:

You should now be faced with this:

Your key will insert into the key hole but probably wont do very much especially if, like mine, it's never really been used before as they are especially prone to seizing up.
If your's isn't seized, you need to turn the key clockwise to unlock the door. You should feel a firm resistance and will feel the lock release at approx the 2 O'clock position.
My own lock wouldn't go past the 1 O'clock position but by using WD40 inside the key hole and along the key blade AND by applying a little pressure for a few seconds at the sticking point the key suddenly moved to the unlock position and I was able to open the door. Be warned, your alarm will sound if the car was remote locked before freeing off the door lock.
You can relock the door by turning the key anti-clockwise to approx the 11 O'clock position.
This pic should help:

Useful mini guide. Can I just add that according to the manual you need to use the key to refit the cover otherwise apparently the clip breaks.2006 TdV6 HSE.
