Hi Ian

I had the same problem on my 06 HSE but it was the horisontal adjustment that did not work.
The first thing you need to check if it is electrical engine or if it is seat control.
Try that out by pressing the memory button. If you altern the different memory positions and the seat change height then you know that the engine works at least.
If it is the control (as it it was in my case) then you need to demount the control from the seat (supposing that it is not a cable but then the "memory positions" should not work(change height) as well)
I demounted the steering unit for the seat (quite simple) and found that it was the "welding" (it is actually not a welding but I don't know the english word isn't it solder or something like that) of the microswitch control to the circuit board that was not proberly done (thanks Volvo!)
I reinforced by "welding" the micro switch to the circuit board and voila the seat became fully operational.
It is quite easy to do but you need to be cool when demount the steering unit from the seat and take care when demounting the control knobs frpm the micro switch there are small springs iin them that easy get lost.
Do the circuit borad on a clean table whwre you can keep track of all parts.

OK. I will be away a couple of days but I chack in on Monday to see if I can help you further.

Good luck!
