United Kingdom 2014 Discovery 4 3.0 SDV6 XXV LE Auto Causeway GreyDiscovery 4

I originally thought there might be a typo but then I looked at all the pictures in the salvage report... I think the vehicle was stolen and had a different identity. That would explain the lack of MOTs etc...

The 'typo' issue might be that or it might be that with it's new identity the vehicle did 100K miles in three years and then someone has seen fit to return it to it's original identity miles..

Either way, I won't be bothering with it.

If you look at the dealers pictures of the vehicle it also includes the 'good service history' which is this showing at best a gap of 5 years between servicing (unless other receipts are not shown)....

I hardly think that is a 'good service history'...

Anyway, if it tickles your fancy you won't be having any competition from me!

Confused

..just before I leave this one I had another scan through the salvage pictures and you can clearly see the mileage at 139K +....

I am going to ring the dealers and point it out....

Salvage...

....and Dealer...

vehicle pictures look similar for an XXV right down to the nearside front lower valance clip being loose...

Salesperson was oblivious and says HPI shows none of this....

They are a family firm and look and review well (AutoTrader Retailer of the Year, if that isn't just purchased...).

I think they've been had..... Rolling Eyes

WOW - a very lucky escape for you and I hope it gets removed/sorted before some poor sod gets taken in.

Mind you, who wouldn't do a vehicle check when spending close to £30k?

There aren't that many XXV's about I guess so easy to be taken in by the 40k mileage if you really wanted one - maybe that's their angle. I would have walked away with the gap in the service anyways.

I looked at an XXV in Cardiff before I bought mine elsewhere and they said on the phone full service/lovely condition all that flannel to get me there. Got there, didn't look that well looked after, checked the VIN, no service for years. Censored. Serves me right for thinking a car supermarket would have good stock ;(

- mine does that - I was going to ask how it is easily fixed...as it's a bit annoying. In today's world, if you contribute something, you don't contribute enough. If you contribute nothing, you receive everything.

'It is HPI clear'.....

Over on the Performance Audi Forum I am also on HPI is fast losing credibility.

I recommend vcheck.uk (and again say it has nothing to do with me..).

Bow down

The sticker on it denotes that it has a false VIN on the chassis. The sticker is an identifier to Police that the Vehicle has been previously been through police hands and identified by an authorised stolen vehicle examiner.
It has been given a unique number which gives subsequent provenance of the vehicle.

The dealer should declare by law that this vehicle is a previously stolen vehicle. If not then any subsequent purchaser should be able to fully recover his deposit in full...

The vehicle is worth half of its current advertised value.

bought mine from a car supermarket in Peterborough, 100 mile round trip from mine and went down to view and then again to sign for it. Full service history, 1 owner, all receipts and well looked after. The only down side was their finance APR was ridiculous and their 3 month warranty useless but I just funded it from elsewhere. Overall it was decent car from a decent dealer.

So car supermarkets do have good honest cars in stock

I'm sure I recognise the salvage photo as a Copart car advertised a while ago and the high mileage rings a bell in my tiny brain too, can't recall what depot though.

Is now on Scottish reg number but originally supplied by London dealer but this may not be an issue I suppose as doesn't always go back to original plate after a private plate?

Sales Manager emailed me back saying vcheck was wrong. That the car is a different colour (it isn't) and that the condition is different (it does not look that way in both the dealer pictures and the extensive salvage pictures). He said there'd be a 'price reduction' if I ws still interested.

I said that I would want an AA report (given the dealer makes much of the 'AA inspected' marketing) on the paint depth and condition around the VIN number before I did anything.

The dealer has now removed the car from sale and their website.

There should be a second police sticker near the VIN sticker plate... the one near the stamped vin is a ridiculous place to put it as that area needs repainting....dishonest car dealers would also try to disguise it...

This is the problem when there are so many early cars that end up as salvage due to engine failure..they provide an easy and quick and cheap identity to place on a late stolen D4....

They end up on EBay as a facelift D4/3 which tempts buyers.... Sad
