Phew - beginning to think it wasn't a real Land Rover!

So I picked up a new (to me) 2013 HSE in mid-Feb. Other than needing new front arms/bushes (which the clunks on the test drive told me about!) it's been completely trouble free - to the extent that I was starting to wonder if this was a genuine Land Rover!

All was put right with the world on Saturday when my son jumped out of the passenger side followed by a clang and the situation report of "Dad, the side of the car's fallen off".

Unable to think what the "side of the car" might be referring to, I jumped out to find that the aluminium(?) trim from the side step was lying on the floor. Closer inspection suggests that whatever is used to hold it on (pop rivets?) has corroded away leaving 'stumps'.

Is there any mileage in trying to get the trim riveted back on, or should I be looking at replacing the whole steps?

Do the brackets that hold the step onto the car generally last well, or should I be looking to get those swapped as well?

From what I can tell they are original LR parts, presumably the original steps from 2013. I'm by no means a mechanic, but reckon I can handle bolting new steps on to the existing brackets if that's all its going to take.

funnily enough I serviced mine at the weekend and where I slid under the drivers side I must have caught the step trim as the front was pulled away I just redrilled some 4mm holes through the slot in the bracket and wacked a couple of rivets in seems sound to me Wink

The remaining steel and rubber can be a total pain to remove, but if you decide to go that route and replace, the aftermarket sidesteps in the same design usually fit the std.

Check the brkts tho'... mine were in good condition, but need to check.

Thanks, I'll check out the brackets and if they look OK I'll pick up some aftermarkets and have a go at swapping them out myself. If the brackets look to be in bad condition, I might have to take a trip to my local indy as I probably lack the skills/equipment/patience ....
