Iphone cradle option

Does anyone think this would work.

Take a cradle from a 5 series BMW for the Iphone and plug it into the LR system. Check out this link. I swear that is the same interface as the Land Rover. You might need to reroute the wire to account for the different mount location, but in doing so you could remount the cradle to the floating tray so that the phone is the right way up and usable.

I wonder if there is some former BMW electronics cross over here?

iphone cradle

Hi
I just checked your post referring to the BMW site and I think you might be on to something the connections look the same but I dont think the cradle would fit in the arm rest as the BMW connection is at the bottom of the cradle while the LR one is in the middle this would push the cradle to far up the arm rest, but with a little playing about Im sure someone will come up with something.
Has anyone tried a BMW one yet even an old one just to see if it works
cheers

Not sure if it would work.

The voltages on the nokia thing ar different to the requirements on the IPHONE, and as mentioned above the connector in in the middle of the holder.

However seeing as the intermediate connectors are BMW I sure somewhere there is something that could be done however I'm not sure its worth it for LR to do .

Hi,
Refering to my earlier post I took my disco phone console apart at the weekend - many many bits Sad

after modification, connected a Iphone BMW cradle as same connections on the bottom.

Sad to report no use:-

1.Does not charge

2.Cradle too long to fit

Wasted an afternoon but now know why its not been done before Embarassed or perhaps someone else did but I've not seen the post !

bmw ipod to lr cradle

Hi
I dont know how bmw system works but all the guys have done is change the cradle from their old nokia phone to the new ipod cradle so the wring would have to be changed in some way inside these adapter type cradles not on the actual cradle itself that would explain how you can change to different cradles for different phones.
The wiring in the main cradle dosnt change its the adapter and all have said thewy work but will it work for 3Gs
cheers

Thanks for the feedback.

Interesting.

I'm a little surprised that it did not work. i would of thought that the voltage in a car would have been the standard 12 v and the base down stepped the power to 4 or 5v for the phone. I wonder if there is line diagram somewhere for the LR Console. I could then seem if my chilton or the BMW shop diagram has the same.

Cheers,

The problem is not the unit voltage as the supply from the LR unit is around 5v.

The problem is with the IPhone itself as it requires a couple of different voltages over two pins and also certain resisters involved in the circuit which cause the Phone to recognise that it's charging.

There is a wiring diagram for the connection to the holder I'll dig it out as well as the I Phone pin

Guys,

I am new to the forum and not very technically minded, so I am not clear whether there is now a solution to the problem below or not!

I have acquired a 55 HSE in June and the previous owner put me onto your site.

The car has bluetooth connectivity and controls on the steering wheel but no phone cradle in the cubby box lid.

From what I can gather I can't use the phone book display in the central console, via the intergrated systems, unless the phone is connected and I would prefer not to use an aftermarket kit to attach to the dash.

Can an updated phone cradle be retro fitted to a replacement cubby box lid to link into the existing phone system, to overcome this problem? Is the wiring already in place to do this?

Thanking you in anticipation for your assistance.

power output

Does anyone know what the actual power output is from this fitting in the underside of lid of the cubby box?

I am sure that I could get a unit made that would power Iphone, blackberry etc

phone cradle in centre console

Hi All
found out some more info on the cradle in the console it is in fact a ford system and not a BMW derived system so this might help a bit more.
the voltage supplied to this cradle is standard nokia kit voltage and as said inanother post iphones and Blacberrys handle their voltaged differently
Now all someone has to do is find out which kit ford used in the car it may also belong to volvo, jaguar, aston martin so this is another route, just need to find out which one.
Failing this then you can bin it and put in the brilliant set up that Nav TV do and everything comes up on your touch screen including all your music tracks, but at around £800 installed its alot of money and your car will be away for a day
cheers

Hi SCC Ton
Do you have the mount inside your cubby box if you do then there is no cradle available and probably never will be from Land Rover anyway, if you dont have the mount inside the cubby box then you have the Landrover Aftermarket system which is bluetooth only and Wiggs will have to update it for you, probably as the bloody things never work right
cheers

I'm using a Ford cradle in my '05 HSE.

Works like a charm except for the auto power off on ignition cut off.
I'm using an old Nokia 6100 and selected the option for the auto power off in the phone.

Don't know if it is the cradle or the phone.

Grtz,
Jelle
