Please connect iPod

I have tried connecting my Ipod classic to both USB ports in the glove box (MY2016) but the car does not see it. I have checked the ipod has the latest firmware. The USB sockets behave correctly when I connect my iphone to them.
Any thoughts please?

Yes, it's actually the original cable that came with the ipod. It hasn't been used for years as this ipod has been permanently connected in my last D4 for 6 years and that had the bespoke D4 ipod cable in the centre console.
I used this white cable to connect the ipod to the pc and check that it is on the latest firmware recently so the cable seems to be intact.

Usually the other way round.
Try resetting iPod (doesn't wipe contents) & then try again, also worth trying with same cable with something else.
Have found mine occasionally needs a reset. Also car plays up occasionally as well, usually a turn off, turn on again works

You mention you have an iPhone. When you try and connect your iPod, is your iPhone already connected for Bluetooth streaming? I found out that you can only have one Apple device connected for music at once!

Disconnect your iPhone from the My Music screen, and then connect your iPod. You can still use your iPhone for telephony, but just not for music streaming!

Thanks for the suggestions guys. I had an opportunity to test this again yesterday.

Different Apple USB cable connecting ipod to the car, iphone not near the car so nothing using bluetooth, result is the same, the ipod screen gets the 'do not disconnect' and red strikethrough circle, and the car says 'please connect ipod'

The ipod's response is the same as you get when putting it on charge with a main charger, so I guess it is getting a charge from the car, but the data part of it does not seem to be hooking up.

I have just been out and done a reset on the ipod - missed it before - but unfortunately it has made no difference, same response on the ipod and on the car. Grr!

IPods

Way back we bought 4 classic 80gb ones - one for each of us here
All came formatted to Microsoft...muscic loaded up under this format...then these four swapped to Apple system.
We then got a 160gb one free as part of a student offer....this came with & stayed Microsoft.....daughter studying abroad & loaded her music through a PC.
I then bought one of the last 160gb ones before range pulled....came Apple formatted.

Different family members use the four vehicles we have with iPod connect it's (2 LRs, a Jag & my works VW)...the rogue 'pod that seems to error from time to time is the Microsoft formatted one.

An iPod reset always cures this...I've never had to blank a pod & recover the content. I have to "fix" all issues like these....as you do.

So it may be worth a check to see the iPod format...I'll check the firmware level in all my iPods to see if the rogue one is different in this way.
One very recent update of iTunes changed a lot under the hood in the Mac based version of all our Macs....slight nuances of controls function on iTunes....may have altered iPods too as they got an update if plugged & synchronised.
All the car connections via the base multi plug not the ear phone one /type.

As an aside I've had far more issues with USB sticks used as music memory's in the J/LR cars I have...I have never really fathomed the causes out.

The Apple product support forums still have some user input expertise if you venture in there.

Thanks for that, some good info in there.
Mine is in Windows format, it is an original 60GB model, which was the biggest back then.
It worked faultlessly for 6 years in my last D4, I never took it out and left it connected always - through the special connector in the centre cubby. But this D4 has never recognised it.
I'll find out what firmware version it is. And I'll have a look at the Apple forums, good thought, thanks.

As a sideline, when I have my iphone connected to play music, the on screen controls in the car allow shuttle forward and back and pause/play, but only within the album or list that is already set to play on the iphone. There is no menu to select the music in the first place or to go up a level out of an album, for example, to choose another album. Is this normal? Again, my last D4 had much better music selection menus than this one does which seems crazy given that this one even has rear seat entertainment which the last one did not.

With the iPhone, you can only go forward/backward in the album or playlist that you've already selected on the phone. Using the classic iPod instead gives much better functionality.

You said your iPhone was not in the car, but have you actually deleted the connection with the iPhone on the touchscreen in My Music? I had this on my XXV when I got it. Deleting the iPhone connection, switching off the vehicle and letting it go to sleep, and then connecting my iPod BEFORE pairing my iPhone cured the problem. Worth a try anyway Thumbs Up

There is some landrover witchcraft within the entertainment system. none of my kids iPad Minis (3 of them) will connect to my current D4 unless we delete SWMBO's iPhone SE but they will with my iPhone 7 registered to the car. Simply haven't been bothered to experiment or investigate further and getting the dealer involved would no doubt just wind me up Laughing

Thanks DudleyD, what a naff interface. Our old Kia has full functionality with the iphone including album cover graphics display. It really shouldn't be that difficult.
I did that last night just before you suggested it, deleted the bluetooth iphone connection. Then this morning I tried the ipod again. No change. Bah!

Well RDR it is cross-making, given how naff the iphone interface is I would like to get the ipod working. I ahve reear ent and dont even use it. Evil or Very Mad

Running out of ideas I'm afraid. Can you just confirm that you've gone into My Music/Bluetooth/ Change Device and deleted your iPhone. Just deleting it in the Phone section doesn't seem to clear it.

The only other thing I can think of is have you ticked the Enable Disk Use when your iPod is connected to iTunes. Don't know if it makes a difference, but I've got it ticked on mine.
