D3 yes, D4 no, which one you got?
the base model D3 ships with 17"s you can pick them up reasonably as many upgrade to 18"s or 19"s.
search around on the site and you'll sure find some for sale, usually with new tyres too... one wife.......livid

Stick, 17" will only fit on the 2.7l D4 (which has the same brakes as the D3). 18" is the smallest that will fit the V8 D3 and bigger engined D4 (smallest may even be even 19" on the D4, not sure if anyone has confirmed if 18" will fit yet )
Alloys are often available pretty cheap on here and ebay, especially 17" ones The End

Stick, you will be suprised what you can find on ebay sometimes. . .I bought a set of four 17" with wrangler M+S tires on (all with good tread) for £120 . . . . some guy had bought 20" wheels to bling his D3 (not a forum member though) and just wanted his garage space back. . .so I got a top deal
so keep your eyes open and you might drop lucky Still miss my D3

thanks for tips. I don't have a discovery yet, but have eye on 3.0 d4. Want a good winter tyre solution though as go to Alps a lot. Current cars all have steels for winter - £27 a corner! Looks like two sets of 18" alloys. Not a cheap solution!

in fact , worse than that, the brochure does not list 18 inch as an option for the 3.0 in which case one would need two sets of 19". I don't own a LR, but i would think that is the wrong configuration for good grip in snow and ice. The marketing men triumph!

stick,
don't order the spare wheels from LR when you order your car, you WILL find a second set, either on here or fleabay...
i picked up a set of 19" with vradestein winter tyres on for rpg only a few weeks back,.... have alooksy around..
as for wheel size, i wouldnt worry so much about the size and it's performance in snow, the d3 is pretty handy even with only road tyres on, adding winter tyres whatever the size of rim (within reason of course) is only going to make a great vehicle even better.. one wife.......livid

Thanks for the advice ad15, I am sure you are right that it will be fine. I will probably still get one as the terrain control is clearly excellent. I am saddened that the d4 is less and less focussed on delivering driver options, and more focussed on image and looks. I was late swapping my M-B from 245/45 "normal" tyres this year to its 205/60 Alpin Sport on 16 inch rims - but you should feel the difference! And all for £27 each.

SNIP
Hi Simon,
It has been confirmed that LR 18" rims will NOT fit the D4 3.0. Gordon has gone to the extent of arranging for a custom design 18" rim. See here:

I came on this thread looking for advice after a scare with ice under snow in the Swiss alps recently (thinking of chains at the moment), but couldn't help noticing this above.
I second what ad15 is saying and add that I have been driving Nokian winter tyres for three years now and KEEP THEM ON ALL YEAR ROUND and have just passed the 50,000km mark with a good 5-6mm tread still left. The tyres will need replacing this year but have given an impressive return considering "they" say I should take winter tyres off in the summer so they don't wear out.
p.s. the reason I keep them on the summer is to cope with off road mud (occasionally). Life is what you make it.
