Poll - Low Battery Warning Timed/Remote Climate Activation

There have been mainy D4'ers including me reporting issues with getting the Low Battery Warning when using the "Timed" climate option, so out of interest I though it would be good to see if those with the remote blipper option also get the warning when they don't use the Timer on the dash.

Please only complete the poll if you have both options available and experience of both options otherwise it'll skew the results - thanks.

To be honest, I never got the problem with the bleeper, mine only started two days after I first set the timmers. Not tried the bleeper since as I dont want to get stranded again. LR assist been out to this problem 3 times......no result.

I have had the message pop up once, but not seen it now for a couple of weeks. I have only used the timed feature once (after TFC enabled it) and generally just use the remote about 1/2 hour before I go out.

Mine's packed up with the factory fit remote plipper as well. FBH come on instantly on the Remote BUT no internal cabin warm up and "Low Fuel/Low Battery" warning on the main screen as soon as you start up. Goes in tomorrow so will update, IF they can fix it.

Only use the blipper as radom work times, not had any problems so far. Had the use of a FFRR for work while we were away in cold climes and that had the low batt warning most mornings when the timed start used, but engine always started OK. I thought the FBH cut off if the volts start to get low even if it's not run it's full 30 mins?

Title Fuel Fired Burning heater/ Battery Monitoring System 11/12MY
Category Electrical
Last modified 21-Dec-2011 00:00:00
Symptom 205000 Electrical Accessories
Content Issue: A customer may report that the Fuel Fired Burning Heater (FFBH) appears to operate for a shorter than expected cycle time (approximately 5 to 10 minutes) before the FFBH is switched off.

Cause: The concern may be as a result of the Battery Monitoring System (BMS) strategy for battery condition/ load detection.

Action: A new level BMS has recently been introduced at Manufacturing for the following model lines:

Range Rover VIN CA371169 onwards
Range Rover Sport LHD VIN CA731475 onwards
Range Rover Sport RHD VIN CA731269 onwards
Discovery 4/ LR4 LHD VIN CA608658 onwards
Discovery 4/ LR4 RHD VIN CA608504 onwards

Check the operation of the Fuel Fired Burning Heater using Symptom Driven Diagnostics (SDD). If the FFBH appears to be functioning correctly during SDD interrogation, it is likely that the BMS strategy is the cause of the concern and the BMS will require replacement.
If the FFBH does not appear to operate correctly during SDD interrogation, continue with diagnosis of the FFBH as guided by SDD.

Land Rover are currently in the process of obtaining new components for stock at Caterpillar with an anticipated date of arrival of 22nd December 2011.

The new part numbers are:
Range Rover - LR037872
Range Rover Sport/ Discovery 4/ LR4 Left Hand Drive - LR037867
Range Rover Sport/ Discovery 4/ LR4 Right Hand Drive - LR037862

Note: The BMS LIN connection (flylead) should not be disconnected as this will cause a red warning to appear on the Instrument Pack and the system will enter a default charging strategy.

Hi
stirling land rover have order replacement BMS for both D4's. but they are showing no stock at present. hope this is the fix, as the cold mornings are a big issues, and the park heater is one of the main reasons why we bought D4's.
 Cheers

I wonder what difference it would make if the small plug on the battery module were removed and it could not sense ? May be worth a try. I know it would go into default Alternator charge as a result but that's no biggie really.

Yes, I got the Low Fuel/Low Battery warning with My remote Plipper.

Dealer had it yesterday and said it was a SOFTWARE problem and dowloaded something from LR. NOT had chance to check the fix yet though. BUT I don't think they replaced the BMS module on mine. Will report back when I've spoken to service department and also tested it.

My plipper worked fine for a bout 4 times then went into warning mode. FBH however was still working on remote and in auto mode throughout, so it's the internal climate thats not being allowed to switch on.

I have no messaging "low battery" anyway my FBH is running 15-17 mins, the same running period if started by blipped or display timer. I changed bms to LR037867, but did not solve FBH short running time problem. But now I get sometimes "low battery" warning message. So I will change bms to original one.

Since forking out for a replacement battery myself in Autumn 2011 I've not had the problem again and that includes two winters of using the FBH with remote or timer and lots of short journeys. So I'm confident in saying that mine was a dud battery.

And what about the vote option for those of us who have not had a problem using either/both.

Never had an issue. (Touchwood)

Cant see how to respond to the poll

I get low warning very time I use it and even when I dont use it 50% of the time you get in says something about Timed Climate not available due to low battery. Once I had it switch off the Sat nav
 D4 HSE - Aintree Green
D4 Orkney my13 - gone
Stornaway D4. Gone, Didn't like it at all
D3 silver manual. Loved my first LR

The BMS update makes diddly squat difference lads. Don't hold out any hope of it curing the problem.

I've not ran my FBH much (through GMS/Remote) since they replaced the flooded battery with a brand new AGM. But it crapped out the first time of asking. I have since charged it and it's reading a good voltage, so will play about with it a bit more and see how I get on.

As I mentioned elsewhere, I think it's a design flaw and they battery can't replenish the volts it's used whilst running the FBH without engine being ran.

EDIT: I'd suggest a better poll would be to get everyone to measure the battery's voltage before and after use of the FBH, using a proper multimeter. This will give us accurate results on when the battery starts protesting.
 If in doot, flat oot!!
