Poorly Land Rover ...... PLEASE help
Hi,
Earlier this year my disco broke down and was told it needed a new alternator and battery (which were replaced) at the time of the breakdown my sat nav went off first but stereo still worked. Garaged fixed the alternator and battery but couldn't fix the sat nav/stereo as it kept blowing fuses. It remains unfixed!
Now I have water in the front passenger foot well and the carpet is soaked half way up the foot rest and I have just discovered that the water has now reached the middle row of seats (all on the passenger side) I can't find where the water is coming from and not sure if it is related to the sat nav/stereo problem.
I have spent thousands on the car this year including a new compressor for the air con unit, new torque converter as well as the above.
Anyone out there that can help me??

have you got a sun roof as it could be the drain offs blocked or possibly pollen filter housing leaking behind the dash?

Hello Audrey,
Another place to check is the black trims either side of the windscreen. These plastic trims cover the metal body shell and the metal body shell has a few extra holes in it here. Water can enter the car through these holes in the body shell. This usually happens after a new windscreen has been fitted, as some auto glass companies don't bother to replace these trims when they replace the windscreen.
There is a repair kit available from JLR that comprises some neoprene patches that you can cover the holes with.
Also worth checking the pollen filter area, like Ceekay says. If you open the lower glove box, you will see a plastic arm on either side of the glove box lid. You need to gently push these down so that you can lower the glove box beyond its normal resting position. Inside that area you will see a load of fuses and a black plastic box near the top of that void. This is where the pollen filter lives and you can pop this open to see if water is getting in via the lower windscreen trim.
I suspect the sunroof drain holes are probably what are causing it, though. These are rubber tubes that extend down from the rubber sunroof seal. They can easily get blocked with crud and need cleaning out occasionally using some curtain wire or similar.
Hopefully somebody closer to you might be willing to take a look at it for you.

Thank you Steve, will check them although I haven't had the windscreen replaced...........its probably the only original part on the car!

The water ingress into the footwell is in close proximity to the Central Junction Box behind the glovebox. This powers most of the electrical circuits within the passenger compartment and could be causing the electrical faults with the stereo and nav unit.

The water is almost certainly the sunroof drains which get blocked up at the end and then backs up so the water overflows.
To replace them you need to remove the glove box and CJB to get proper access. The pipe isn’t much, but there’s a fair bit of labour to change it.
Some people replace it with some garden hose.
Try parking the car the other way round, although if you’re still at the house, I think the drive is pretty level so won’t make much difference.

Hi Ian,
We are ok, finally had to given in and sell the house and still struggling without Highbayrack!
We now live in Burton Latimer and the driveway is perfect for draining purposes (45 degree angle). Have conceded and purchased a Haynes manual to help with electrical diagrams and general maintenance stuff as cant afford to keeping putting it into garages!!!

I had the same problem 6 months ago. Whilst I agree with Bodsy that the drain can become blocked, given the age of the vehicle I would suspect that the drain elbow has actually fallen apart. It's rubber and over time perishes and then splits leaving what's left to pour water into the passenger side footwell. IIRC the new pipe and elbow cost £16 but I only used the elbow. The job's a b r to do as you need the hands of a child and the strength of man and you have to work blind on the 2 connectors on the rear of the Central Junction Box. Having said that, it is something that can be done by your average DIYer.

Possibly worth getting the parts first as potentially need them. Sorry don't know if car in regular use as saves having to strip it down discovering parts needed. I an in MK if need a second pair of hands like they say two heads better than one. If it turns out that parts not needed I am sure you will not have a problem with shifting them on here.
