Possible Tracking Issue

Hi Guys,
I'm looking for a little help, I don't get to drive our disco 4 very often as SWMBO is quite protective of it.
On the odd occasion I do, I recently noticed that the steering wheel had moved slightly off centre. Having asked on several occasions if the other half had kerbed it at any point she has finally confirmed my fears and hit / rode up a very large kerb on the off side on entering a local petrol station.
I assume from this that it has shifted the tracking.
Now here's my dilemma, I don't trust the local stealer from previous experience and I'm assuming that the smallest of activities undertaken by the stealer comes with a hefty bill.
Therefore my question is two fold;
1 - Am I likely to be correct in my assumption that the tracking requires checking and possible adjustment.
2 - Can anyone recommend a good alternative to the stealer within the Stoke-on-Trent area with the necessary 4x4 experience to sort this for me.

I'm sure having had a delay in finding this problem that it has already started to scrub the tyres (not that I have noticed following a quick glance) causing further possible issues until tyre replacement is necessary.

Any assistance would be gratefully received.

From what youve described,it certainly sounds like a tracking issue,but when my wheel went off-centre the culprit was my rear left corner sitting 17mm lower than it should.....just something else to check before paying out Thumbs Up

I can't recommend anywhere in your area, but it's easy to get it checked at any 4 wheel laser alignment specialist. Mine didn't feel quite right, so I took it to a local alignment place in Plymouth who checked it and adjusted as required for £45, which I'm happy with. Here's the print out, which shows the small changes, resulting in a much better 'feel' to the steering. I used to get it put into 'tight tolerance mode' for alignment checks (on my old D3) but I don't bother now.

Thanks Guys,

I have found via the internet a local garage who service jaguars 'XJK independent' who have the Hunter 4 wheel alignment equipment.

I was near by there place so I popped into see them today, they confirmed as they put it they do' trucks' as well and can put into tight tolerance mode, price £75+VAT.

Now deliberating on it, whether to have it done, the steering wheel is a couple of degrees off centre to the right, you can feel it pull to the left when you centre the wheel. Looking at the tyres I cannot see any noticeable wear, its probably done 300 to 400 miles since the kerbing.

Hmm what to do !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Mine went in yesterday for a full alignment and I paid £99 inc VAT, O/S/R toe was out as well as the O/S/F caster. The front lower arms have recently been replaced which made a dramatic improvement in itself, the alignment has made it feel like new. Well worth the money in my opinion.

Hi Magwhy,
I would definitely take it in for wheel alignment, it's a 'cheap' repair compared to what it would cost to change tires or other components under stress which could get damaged if it's not properly aligned.
I would take it to a center that's got a Hunter rig and make sure they've got the proper/right D4 alignment values in. Steering wheel position will also get repaired when alignment done (take it for a test drive after it's done, if steering wheel not perfectly in line ask them to fix it on the spot, they don't have to realign).
