Potentially stupid question..... headlight bulbs
Noticed this morning one of my dipped headlight bulbs has gone. How do I know if I have Xenon or standard lights?
I was going to stop and buy a pair of basic H7 bulbs at Halfords on the way home but just found the advert from when I bought my car and it says 'adaptive headlights'. This is a D4 facelift (2014) XS model.
If I take it apart and it looks like a standard bulb, can I just fit any standard H7?

Something that should help you change the bulb is removing the whole headlamp unit.
You take the grill off and pull the 2 locking tabs up on the headlight to remove it. May seem daunting but really simple to do.
There will be a guide on here somewhere.

Cheers Liam, I remember doing that on my old D3 and it's not tricky - I just wondered if there was a way to find out which bulbs I need without taking it apart, so I can pick some up on the way home. I'll maybe go pull the bulb from the easier of the two at lunchtime.

That's brilliant, thanks. Fairly sure that honeycombed round light is daytime running on mine, so looks like standard lights. Many thanks!

Picked up H7 bulbs on way home. Got home, dismantled grille and headlights. They’re not H7, they’re HIR2’s. Half hour drive back to Halfords to find they don’t sell them. Doh!!
Try again tomorrow at Main Stealers or Andrew Page. Blummin’ manual shows them as either Xenon or H7 too (and I knew they weren’t Xenon). Oh well, now I know.

They are not xenon they are projector lights, renowned for blowing bulbs don’t buy one spare buy two and carry it in the car as you are sure to need it
Easy way to check what type is remove the lamp and rubber shroud to access the bulb, Xenon are square on the back of the bulb, halogen are round. If a xenon fails you lose both beams, high and low.It can when others can't,
It will when others won't,
It goes where others don't.

It's not Xenon and not a standard H7. But it is a shared main beam and dip (on a single filament bulb). Apparently it's a mechanical shutter to switch between low and high beam.
I'm told these are specific to the standard (non-xenon) lights on the later facelift D4's. And the handbook (and all auto spares databases) don't reflect it.
Yes, I've bought 4 so I have a few spares. Thanks guys.

Owner manual is wrong on face lifting models, If I don't remeber wrong, you need the 9012 bulbs!
