Maybe charge the old battery up and try that on car?
Or swap aux and main battery if they are similar.

Or even splash out on a new battery from Halfords with their good warranty.
What’s the voltage with engine running ?

I went through all this with our last D4. Eventually changed the alternator due to rapid earth drain from the alternator but the battery had been wrecked in the process. Replaced the battery as well and all was normal. Discovery 4 3.0 HSE Lux, 2015

I’ve heard of Alternator issues causing battery to go flat as has been stated! abut your battery seems to be maintaining a charge overnight. Also thinking about this some more and wondering if solenoid is causing an issue. I remember a car in my road not being able to start. Diagnosed as a solenoid issue which was replaced and fine. You say sometimes it starts and I don’t know if solenoids degrade or either work fine/fail. I wonder if the drop in voltage when you turn the key is due to the solenoid?
Perhaps others more knowledgeable might be able to comment and also suggest a test/diagnostic that might help pinpoint.
Keeping my fingers crossed for you Gary

Oh dear.Sounds like they’ve fobbed you off. I wonder if an auto electrician would be more useful if you can find one. Used to diagnosing and finding faults. I do still wonder about the solenoid, as have heard the clicking sound occurs, but not an educated guess I have to say.
Keep us posted. Good luck. Gary

It’s worth noting that these vehicles are quite sensitive to battery issues. Causes all sorts of spurious issues , according to what I’ve read on this forum. Gary

Hi all
Just reporting after a long standing power drain issue I’ve been trying to diagnose
Have had new denso alternator and excide battery and was still getting 0.6 Amp draw and after being sat overnight was not enough voltage to start the fbh. so was very low and couldn’t start the car some days even in warm weather.
I’ve made a few tweaks to inside the car such as remove a gps tracker that was probably drawing charge with ignition on. Removed tow wiring fuse 8, and lowered some piggy back fuses from 15a to 5a. And removed old parrot wiring loom that was fused and piggy backed off the heating panel wiring.
These are the latest readings:
4.30pm 12.9v
8.30pm 12.67
Sat overnight til 9am 12.6v
Unlock 12.45v
Key in 2 clicks but not cranked 12.06v
Cranking 10.64v
(3 degrees weather)
Does this sound ok and normal or is it supposed to be 12.6v at the point of key in 2 clicks ready to crank please?
Thanks Disco 3 SE Manual 2005 V6 2.7

I think your other thread shows 0.06A on your meter. Which is 60ma (not massive)
As a short term solution. I think you got the battery from Halfords with a good warranty.
Why don’t you take the battery back. Get them to test the battery. See if they will give you a replacement.
Personally I don’t rate Exide batteries.
Then in slower time investigate that drain.
Has disconnecting the parrot reduced the 0.06 ?

Changing fuses does NOT affect what current they allow to pass until you reach their limit, at which point they blow. .

Alright Pete:
I replaced the battery with an excide ea1000 last week from a Recomended supplier everyone seems to use
Also took Halfords battery back - they said it’s working fine and won’t swap it so I’ll keep that as a spare
Hardware (hello)
I presumed this wouldn’t make a difference to be honest but it’s clutching at straws at this stage digging deep in to any mods done to just get to the bottom of it as it’s frikin annoying me now
Would you guys say the latest readings appear to be normal then?
Next up is the ipcu cab heater I’m going to lower the settings so the blower is minimal and lower voltage draw as it takes the battery to 12.2v when switched on. Maybe this is why the fbh can’t start as the ipcu is drawing too much voltage to the blower as it seemed to be blowing more powerful than actually needed Disco 3 SE Manual 2005 V6 2.7
