if it's still between the markers it will be fine ,to much people want to have every fluid at the max mark ,unless there's a leak the level will not change Very Happy

Spain 2007 Discovery 3 4.4 V8 SE Auto Zermatt SilverDiscovery 3

If I'm not wrong DAF trucks use the same Texaco 14315 (now branded as Texaco 33270 according to their literature), much much cheaper. Manufactured by texaco, sold in theory in 20-litre units (don't know of it's drums or 1-litre bottles), and to compare prices, the "Unobtanium" is sold circa 20 euro/bottle in Spain and the DAF fluid around 8 euro/litre, so 60% cheaper for the same stuff
It is sold under the name of "DAF cold climate power steering fluid".
I've rung one DAF trucks dealer to be told that they would only supply 20-litre drum.OK, PAS for my D3 and PAS and ACE for my D2 taht would make about 12 litres fopr flushing.

But they called me back to tell me the drum would be sold in 100-litre units, so that's a no-no!.

I've contacted Texaco in Spain, now taken over by CEPSA as Texaco pulled off Spain and Portugal, handing over stations and products to Cepsa, to be told that this product is not sold in Spain

Penrite sell the same stuff as PSF fluid, same specs 14315 PAS/ACE compliant, but in Spain is dearer than the genuine stuff.

Fuchs claim to use the ATF 5000 for the PAS (As it's semi synthetic) and ATF4000 for the stabiliser system, whereas the Texaco stuff is good for both.

Many people from the Australian forum use the CAstrol TRansmax Z but that is fully synthetic, and their PDS shows a different viscosity index and kinematic viscosity.
Then there is the Pentosin CHF11S which many list as direct replacement for the Texaco stuff, but in the USA many people complained about moaning/groaning noises from steering boxes in D2 (which also use the Texaco stuff).

The texaco compies the following specs
General Motors: GM 9985835 (wide temperature range) and saginaw racks as well
ZF: TE-ML 09B
Landrover: All vehicles, for Power Steering and Active Cornering Enhancement (ACE) systems
Chrysler: MS 5931

So any fluid complying with these in theory should be valid for our D3s

The Fuchs Titan PSF (on theory only compying with MB 236.3) is also sold as MB part 0009898803, sold as well by FEBI as part number 08972

Sorry for such a long post but I can't manage to understand this monopolystic approach when it comes to PAS fluid. And I don't want to have a leak in the middle of nowhere and not being able to reach a delaer, having to go bak on a trailer due to a stupind PAS fluid made from unobtanium...
Happy wednesday to everyone

Thank you for a very comprehensive post on steering fluids five years ago! Bow down Thumbs Up

I selected Pentosin CHF11S which the local oil distributor said they have availability for as a generic, the alternative would have been a BMW partnumbered CHF11S product made by Fuchs. Ravenol SSF didn't seem to be stocked either nor any of the Texaco branded ones - Ravenol themselves list CHF11S as an equivalent so I think I'll be all right from that angle.

FWIW British Atlantic ("roverparts") lists Pentosin CHF11S as an PSF for D3s, if it's good enough for the guys whose videos I watch before I start to fix something it'll be good enough for me too Thumbs Up
