Power/acceleration issue - help please |
|
Evening
Last couple of days I've had the following issues. Any ideas please? Taking it to an independent garage tomorrow but wondered if I'm taking a risk driving it there.
Lack of acceleration, gets up to around 1500 revs but very very sluggish. Change gear and the rev counter drops dramatically so again poor acceleration in that gear.
There was a whining noise and a little smoke coming from the exhausts on starting up yesterday for about 25 seconds but not happened since.
No warning lights on the dash. Temp etc fine.
Thanks in advance.

Sounds like the EGR's!- are they blanked? It can when others can't,
It will when others won't,
It goes where others don't.

If the intercooler or hose has split you will have literally a cloud of black smoke behind you and it will have little power and not rev above 2000rpm- fit new hose or intercooler.
Failed Exhaust Gas Recirculating valve(s) can vary, sometimes ok, others max revs 1200rpm with no power, easy cure on yours is to blank them off, new valves will be £100's and may fail again.
Can't diagnose the whining noise it may be just the alternator or viscose fan working overtime. Shouldn't do any harm running it except got causing a traffic jam, I'll put my money on EGR's- get them blanked It can when others can't,
It will when others won't,
It goes where others don't.

Thanks for the replies everyone.I'll update, although there appears to be a front runner. Ideas on general costs if it is the EGR? Replacing/blanking.

He's plugged it in and it's come back with 5 engine faults, 3 from faulty EGR's. Reckons the other 2 are linked and will disappear once it's blanked. Quoted £300?

Result!! but if you blank them off yourself and get someone off here to clear the fault codes it will cost you a lot less, they are on ebay with a "how to"guide on here somewhere, I did mine and it is easy. the blanks are on ebay for £8
