I've seen mentioned a few times around the forums a pre-heater??
I have a 55 plate SE and I've scoured the user manual and can't see any reference to this.
Do I have this fitted? Can I have it retro fitted?
I've also seen mention leaving the radio on? Whats all that about, anybody know.
A pre heater would be mighty usefull in sunny Aberdeen, specially with winter comin'
Any help appreciated, cheers.

Assuming you have a TDV6 you'll have the Fuel Burning Heater.
Its fully automatic and is not controllable. It will warm up the engine faster and as an added bonus (due to faster engine warm up) you'll have a warmer cabin sooner.
If you had an early build D3 then there was a menu option in the Settings Menu to supposedly set up Pre Heat and Pre Cool. Never worked and was removed on subsequent builds and then with recent software upgrades.
It was there 'by mistake' apparently.
The radio trick only worked on those with the menu option. Leaving it on would keep the D3 'awake' and allow the timer to work. Only within a 30 min time frame from what I remember.
This now is not even an option as the menu is gone for good.
There is a third party who do a mod though.

has anybody found a solution yet
i.e. third party timer that can be fitter to tthe d3 to enable the pre heat function, even a manual timer that can be set the previous night when frost / snow is expected would be a great step forward, can't believe that landrover have gone to the trouble of fitting the heater and no way of using it to it's full potential, we might not be in the artic circle but it sure can get cold in the uk.
hope some one at landrover is looking at this with enough clout to get some thing done. Tintenter

it is a webasto oval timer. look here to locate a dealer near you and then quiz them on the unit and installation.

I had a RR Vogue 05MY with the full FBH system on it, including a little remote to set it all off. Great for those unexpected winter mornings when I looked out of the bedroom window and saw 2 feet of snow..... pressed the button and went out 20 minutes later to a lovely warm car. This is the biggest thing I miss with the Discovery
My Discovery Metropolis is an 06 but don't know if it has an FBH or not.... nothing on the settings menu and it doesn't seem to warm up any other than normal.
Oh, I miss the heated steering wheel too! At least the front diff hasn't fallen out of the D3.... so far
Views anyone?

FBH is fitted to all uk tdv6 engines. Its behind the left hand headlamp. Its a silver and black square thing, with a small exhaust which protrudes from the front of the front left wheel arch.
You cannot control the heater, it helps the engine warm up. You will notice how effective it is when you start up with the low fuel warning on, this inhibits the FBH and the warm up on a cold morning will be verrrryyyyyy slllooooowwwww
I was one of the lucky ( ) ones who had the early Cock Up un-documented feature of being able to program it in the SETTINGS menu, and leaving the radio on. This is now no longer possible, unless your car has not had the enhancement programme carried out.

it was new and interesting then... now its like a bad fume entering the cabin
No offence to those who are just realising they have an FBH and are asking questions of course

I guess sombody living in Africa would like to pre-heat his car when it's 10°C outside...

There also used to be a Pre Cool setting too - but that was just a 'mistake' too
