I have been frustrated by this FBH issue, I had the thing working by leaving the radio on. The radio appeared to stay on all night, and the heater came on to give a nice warm car in the morning.
I now cannot for the life of me get the radio to stay on all night, it shuts off after an hour. I definitly know that it is possible to get the radio to stay on all night, because I have witnessed it with my own eyes!
but I cannot repeat it. I have tried all sequences of switch on - ignition off - doors open/closed etc.
I really need to know whether anyone else on here knows how to keep the radio alive for more than 1 hour. I have contact from 'within' who is asking me for details/sequences to repeat this. I have told 'them' how to make the timer work, but 'they' want to know how to keep the radio on all night.
Help me and we may get a quick solution.

I have had the same prob with the radio but thought I was giong mad. My Disco2 used to switch off but D3 has done both! I would be interesting to know what it should do as nothing in the handbook (classed as fiction?)

Sounds like typical random software related issues (the radio is after all linked to the most bus!). Anyone tried leaving the CD running or perhaps the radio with the News function on to see if either works ? (they might create additional signals on the system to prevent it going to sleep

Maybe when the battery is getting a bit low, it shuts things like the radio off and goes to sleep.

I am glad its not just me then!! I thought I was going barmy  I think Simons suggestions might hold the answer, I know it can stay on all night, but I wish I could repeat it!
Problem is, its been too mild of late to test the the DFBH (Darned Fuel Burning Heater)

I'm waiting to see what happens on Monday when the dealer gets my car to fix various faults - LR already have the list including this issue & are supposedly getting their technical people to guide the garage through the fixes. I'll post the outcome next week!

The Preheater, although scheduled and the radio left on, will only activate when the outside temperature is 6C or lower. Over the last few days the temperature has been quite mild and as such it has not been possible to enable the preheater, using the "found" leave the radio on overnight.

I was told it was 8deg to activate, and seems to be OK at that temp on mine.

hi everyone i was not told that my car had a fbh and never had one before how does it work and what does it do ????
ive only got the base 7 seat model does mine have it ?? TDV6 7 seat

Hi Teessidelad22, I think the basic is not fitted with the FBH as there are no ways of inputting the timers. However, to see if one is fitted (and it cannot be missed) take a look under the bonnet. On you right hand side, just behind the headlight is a silver box with a miniature exhaust pipe and other pipes attached. It will also say 'Hot' on it with Webasto. If you have that little lot, you have a FBH. Firing it up is another matter. I think there is light at the end of the tunnel, because I am sure if LR cannot get their own ideas to work, Webasto soon will, albeit for a little cost.

yes ive looked under the bonnet and i have a silver box with a chrome type pipe so i think i must have one.
how does it work ?? TDV6 7 seat

I think we all need to realise that this Webasto thingy has two functions.
a) It is a supplementary heater which helps the engine warm up quickly on cold mornings. It will come on at engine start if the air temp is 5 degrees or lower. The way to check operation is to look under the left front of the vehicle, and look for exhaust gases coming from the the little exhaust pipe. It will be difficult for anyone to check this now, as it is too warm. We will probably all have to wait until autumn to check this. (Unless you have a cold room big enough topark your D3 in!)
b) It is also a Cabin Pre-Heater, which has the ability to ignite at a pre-determined time, for a pre-determined period. It will draw fuel from the tank by its own fuel pump, and will burn the fuel to heat the water in the engine cooling system. It will alsoturn on the cabin blower unit to blow warm air into the cabin. The heater will only come on if the air temp is low enough (6 or 8 degrees - I can't remember which)
The Webasto heater works perfectly well. The heater comes on at engine start if the air temp is low enough. The Pre-Heater function will only work if you leave the radio on. This is because the car has a software fault/ommision that prevents the timer from working once all the systems are shut down. Leaving the radio on keeps the timer awake. The radio will however shut off after 1 - 2 hours to save the battery. So to use this function, you will have to get up early and set it and turn on the radio.
There are people (including me) who have managed to get the radio to stay on overnight, but I have never managed to repeat this.
There is nothing wrong with the Webasto heater, or its installation in the car. The problem is the timer is useless. The Timer is Land Rover software NOT Webasto.
The dealers are very cagey about this, and LR have threatened to remove the timer rather than fix it. This could cause some bad feeling amongst owners.
Hope this clarifies this long running issue.

Just Like Teessidelad22 I have te basic 7 Seat version but mine is in Cairns Blue,  Overall I am very pleased with the veichle.
All diesel versions come with the Fuel Burning Heater Installed. This can be verified by checking the build your own veichle section on www.landrover.com and checking the "standard specifications" section.This is just about the only way to see the differences between the various versions, Base, S, SE, and HSE even if some of the descriptions are a bit cryptic. 
Mine FBH has worked on cold mornings. This was especial so in early March with freezing temperatures to assist with engine warming up when the engine was started. Fumes eminated from the exhaust at the front of the veichle and on inspection the unit was red hot. Of course this is the base version without settings menu, so the FBH only works when the engine is running and the outside temperature is cold.
What I think is strange though is that it is not possible to acces the settings menu on the base models. We poor (£30K)  people do have the full message center etc but we are just missing the steering wheel controls.
I have written to my dealer Westover Landrover regarding the inability to access the settings menu on the Base Model together with a couple of other other issues and they have promised to come back to me with a response.
