I was reading the recent thread about being locked out of ones Discovery.
I am slightly prepared, in that I have tried the manual door lock & lubricated the locks - but I must do it again soon.
It occurred to me that the Ctek charger cable which I have attached to the battery could be extended to be accessible from the outside at all times - something else to do in the next couple of weeks.
I carry tools, minor spares, fire extinguishers, touches & hazard lights, reflective jackets, winter gear etc..
How more prepared do I need to be?

That’s a pretty good list.
I would add a more than decent first aid kit, latex (or nitrile, I favor these myself) gloves and trauma shears... these are always good to have around in the vehicle. The trauma pads (and gauze, etc.) in a first aid kit will be fine even if they’re beyond the manufacturer’s “sterile” date. The person you’re applying them to will be happier with absorption capable stuff than that old T-shirt you’ve got in the back... if the kit doesn’t come with a disposable CPR pocket mask, get one. Laerdal makes good ones.
Also belt cutters - perhaps for your own seat belt but for extricating someone else in another vehicle. Cost is negligible, usefulness in a real situation is extremely high. The shears will do if you’re in a hurry. A window hammer tool or two.
Dry food like raisins and fruit bars are good to carry in the side pockets in the back.
Depends where you expect to end up, of course, for how long and with whom.

Having just put everything I took out of my D3 into my D4 I can definitely say I carry too much stuff around.
From cable ties, through a small tool kit, to a Tmax pump.
Was never a scout, but I do like to be prepared, and have used most of what I carry over the years, although most of it to help others, especially my First Aid kit and the Tmax pump.

I have one that goes down behind the grill so in an emergency (Flat bat) I can root it out and connect to it.
I bought one like this. Not had any need of it yet
