I've taken it all apart again today and still have the same problems when I've fitted it back together. I need HELP to get this working! As I said I'm clueless with electrics!

When I got my new wheel fitted.
None of the buttons worked, I took the wheel off and fitted a new steering wheel wiring loom. Cost£15 off eBay and after that its worked fine.

My heated button glows green but doesn’t light up when wheel is on.

Hello All,

I've done this upgrade,

It was pretty straight forward, the red wire on the cig lighter is for the illumination of it, cables are tight and fiddly, and the light fitting wont take much to break!

At first I was disappointed, the way the cruise worked (or didn't) and the buttons didn't light up on the wheel, but wasn't sure they did?

So I was setting the cruise with the top button, then trying to use the "mode" or "ok" up and down arrows thinking that would increase.. But after putting on the reading glasses it clicked i had to keep pushing the cruise button with the little + sign to go faster and the bottom button with the - on it to slow down, have to say it worked a treat, the flappy paddles work great too!!

The heated wheel, is green when off and red when on and so nice in the cold, specially with the way my hands are in the cold....

The Mode button doesn't seem to work correctly tho, at first it doesn't do anything, but after I have changed the source on the stereo, it will go back and forth, but wont scroll through all options.

The other issue it seem I have now, on reading this thread, is that the D4 heated wheel buttons should light up? Is this correct? Saying that I can't remember the D3 buttons lighting up, so always thought LR was saving money??

So would some one please confirm if they do or don't please..

Best wishes,

J

This is the bit I don't get. The stereo controls on both sides work perfect. The phone buttons work perfect.

Cruise buttons all dead. Heated wheel button dead.

I'll check illumination later

I think the heated wheel switch should be illuminated orange and goes red when switched on.
If you wire it up with the polarity crossed, it won't illuminate but the wheel will stay stuck in full heat mode. Rolling Eyes

Also, I might be stating the dead bleeding obvious here but make sure you test the cruise above 25mph ( I think ) as it won't operate if you're going slower.

- Perhaps the squib is knackered?
- when you fitted the heated wheel did you use a secondhand squib or was it a new one?
- if its the old d3 squib mine didn't have the heated wheel connector, has yours?
- Do you have a air bag warning light?
- disconnect the battery and take off the air bag and check all connectors?

I bought a new heated steering wheel clock spring although I cant rule it out as being faulty.

I took it all apart yesterday and it's still not working.

I think I might refit the old clockspring for now and see if the cruise works at least.

Hi

I retrofitted a D4 wheel Into my D3 , alas not heated , ref the cruise control , is it still active in ur CCF , think I set it to ladder 1 in the settings for cruise

Also had to fit the BBS boards and fitted a new loom to the switches , it had an extra red wire which is for the illumination

Don’t know how useful that is and hope u get it sorted out

Pages 10 & 11 for the D4 wiring

Hopefully there may be something that may help and not interfering

I'm sure that is helpful but I'm pretty bad with electrical stuff!

I think my approach after reading everything on the internet will be to

1. Refit old non heated clockspring to see if the cruise works. If it does then it might be the new heated clockspring that is faulty
2. Buy a new loom part no. LR022150 and see if that works.

After that I'm at a dead end
