Problems with HID upgrade on D4 |
|
Tried fitting my HID4U upgrades today. Wired one in and tested it. Nothing. Anyone else had experience here? I tried swapping the unit to the second one to see if it was a faulty, bulb, ballest unit etc but that didn't work either. Am I missing something perhaps?

I don't know about the HID4U kit but if you add the OEM xenon lights they have to be enabled to work on a D4, so it may well he the same.

I don't know if this will help, when I fitted HID lights to my D3 a few years ago they didn't work at first. I changed the polarity (swapped the feed wires) and they worked straight away. It happened on both sides. Might be worth a try

Yeah, I thought of that. No joy.

You mean via the CCF? I am having some mods done next week so I will ask them to enable. Do you know if the halogens will work if its enabled for xenon? Don't want to drive home with no lights as it will be dark.

Yes the halogens will still work if ccf updated to xenon's as they will just have more juice heading their way - if left long term I think they would fail sooner but nothing to worry about in your timescales Stolen - D4 Loire Blue

Just to test the HIDs you could test them by wiring them straight to the battery to see if everything on their side is working. I'm quite sure I'll be shot down for suggesting that!!

All the aftermarket kit should need is +12v and an earth, I cant see enabling anything via CCF would help as they are designed to slot in where Halogens were.
As above, wire em up carefully to a 12v supply to test the kit isn't duff

CFB, if you use the 12v that was the original supply for the halogens then yes it could be ccf related. The cjb doesn't just push 12v to that wire when configured for halogens, it does a soft start (gradually winds the voltage up over a few milliseconds) to preserve bulb life and then constantly checks the load to see if the bulb is lit, possibly turning off if it thinks the bulb is broken. That's why if you swap oem halogens for oem xenons on a D4 they don't work at all until the ccf change is made. (which uses all the same wires).
I didn't say it was the problem, just that it might be, the aftermarket xenons might not like that startup logic or the bulb checking logic.

HIDS4U have suggested I bench test them first to check they are both working. But if you are correct, discoteca, I will probably find that the unit/bulb etc is fine. The only way to then get them to work will be to enable the xenon option via the CFF.

So today I bench tested the units and all worked fine. I decided to fit the near side light first and this worked! Hurrah!
I then fitted the off side one, didn't work. Swapped the polarity and it worked! Even more hurrah!
Took the lights off to cable tie the fittings into place. Fitted them all back together. (Note, no changes to wiring at all.) Nearside worked, off side didn't. Swapped to polarity round, nothing, swapped it back it worked. Cable tired every thing, turned them on again. Off side light didn't work again.
Took it out, bench tested it again and it worked. I am at a loss! Could it be a wiring problem in the main cable that serves the headlight unit or is this to do with the ccf settings?
Any further thoughts out there?
